Help me decide which washing machine - undecided

Ok so I have a choice of 3 machines...

I just cant decide which to get, the Miele is the most reliable and heavy of all 3 machines, the AEG holds the largest load. The F&P machine has the vortex wash where it will spin once during the wash with the soapy water in and would be fun to watch but is prob just a gimmick as the Miele still has an A rated wash performance. The F&P also has a direct drive motor on the back of the drum. The Miele has a brushless new style motor and is tested for 20 years use.

At the moment I am thinking Miele as they are strong, robust etc. Forgot to add that this machine is free in return for a full review I get to keep the machine.

It will be replacing my Maytag MAF8805AES - 6kg machine.

I'm in the USA and machines available to us are different that what's over there, but I'd say go for the Miele.  Mine is built like a tank and HEAVY!  I love my Miele, right up there with my Asko.

Don't be fooled by the AEG, it should have the same drum volume in liters as any other AEG of simmilar depth, that should be about 66l, give or take. (For that matter, all should be within reach of each other, somewhere in the 60l range.)

Further, the AEG has the longest cycle times of them all, clocking in at 3+h, for the non Eco cycles.

The Miele is what it is, a simple Miele. Not to fancy, nothing special. Keep in mind these have changed over the past few years as well (longer cycle times, different rinsing patterns).

I personally just couldn't stand the straight display panel. I like the slanted versions a whole lot more.

The FP is the quickest and probably most variable in terms of water usage and overall cycle choices.

But it's essentially a Haier based machine, if I remeber correctly.

Given you'll get it for free, I'd go with the F&P.
For me, the AEG and the Miele would be to "boring" for me out of those 3.

My landlords are just - like at this moment - moving a Miele in the basement laundry room to replace their just-out-of-warrenty AEG due to failed and leaking bearings.

As I read you email you are getting the Miele for free/ Tell them I will do a review if they want to give me one for free too.

My daily driver Miele was pretty much bottom of the range but it is now in its 14th year and still running well - it has not missed a beat in all that time. For me it would be a no brainer

I just can't decide. They both come with 5 year warranty but the f&p no where displays them so I can't go see them.

The Miele without a doubt will be made like a tank but plain and simple.

I like the F&P machine but the videos on YouTube of another model suggest the vortex wash thing only runs once during the cottons 40 cycle.

A Fisher & Paykel front loader machine was slated in one of the Which? tests. I too was intrigued by the Vortex Wash - but that still isn't a patch on the spin washes of old machines, like the Zanussi Jetsystem, or the Hoover New Wave. I can't help but feel that, if more machines had spin washes, perhaps the filthy tubs on some machines might stay cleaner for longer.

Have you thought about the new Ebac machine? Apparently it's only on sale in independent shops in the North of England.

Ok before I start I will declare that I am a full on MIELE man and I will defend it vehemently, The Mieles are probably not the most glittery or glamorous of the lot, but in my experience I cannot fault it, there is just something about their machines. Your proud of it you will often display it for everyone to see and enjoy.

The machine is really hushed and just goes about its business, and thats the business of cleaning AND protecting clothes. There is no indisiveness about it it, knows what to do, how to balance a load and really wring the laundry.

I have had a AEG Dishwasher but that was in the time before Electrolux took over the company, for that time I think it was really advanced and extremely quiet in operation and very frugal in water usage.

Of the Fisher & Paykel I can't say anything as we don't get it in South AFrica.

So the question really boils down to reliability, flexibility in programs, a machine that does not dilly-dally and also don't forget they invented the honeycomb drum.

You asked for an opinion and I am gonna give it.

Go for the MIELE, you won't regret it.

All of their machines are truly Laundromat/Commercial grade and would handsomely outlast any of the other machines shown. It should last 30 plus years in domestic use. If you can find a laundry equipment dealer that can get you one. (I know SQ is sold in England)that is the road I would take. Just know being an American machine it will need to be connected to hot water if you want to do hot or warm washes.

I have the Mile Touchtronic and got it at the dump seven years ago. I replaced the mother board,detergent drawer and rubber feet. After calling their customer service telling them I was restoring it, they GAVE ME THE PARTS FREE AND SENT A TECH TO DO THE REPAIRS!!!! It has worked flawlessly ever since. Great model with lots of programs.
