My 1960 Pink Frigidaire Refrigerator/Freezer (Model# FPI-15B-60) has stopped cooling, and my repairman said it could be one of two things. It could be a leak or the evaporators may need replacing.
He said they can drain the R12 freon and replace it with a substitute and change out the dryer filter at the same time (at a cost of $200+), but this may not fix the problem.
The alternative is replacing both evaporators (this model had one for the freezer and one for the fridge, behind the food compartment). He said he would not even begin to know where to get evaporators, nor would he know how to replace them even if I can find the parts.
Suggestions? Any advice is appreciated. I really want this machine to work - it's in spectacular physical condition. I'm located in a suburb of Buffalo, NY.
