Hi Everyone,

I have a mint condition, T-20, "Radiant Touch" toaster manufactured by Sunbeam. The other day, I noticed sparks/smoke shoot out where the cord meets the toaster. Needless to say, I have not used it since and was wondering if anyone could help with suggestions on how to repair this. It is the original cloth covered cord from the late 1950's, so I would imagine they don't make these anymore?

All suggestions/opinions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Shane

Shane....

I have over 40 N.O.S Cloth appliance cords still in their wrappers and I would be glad to sell you one for half the price (not including shipping) of the ones off of Ebay that Patrick put the link to. I have either 3 or 4 colors to choose from. If you like I can take some pictures and email them to you so you can pick the style you like best....PAT COFFEY

Sunbeam Toasters!

Now, thanks to TLC, we all know I have a thing for toasters (specifically Sunbeam) -- I'll chime in. :-)

Those cords are very easy to replace. Just carefully remove the "dark/light" knob (perhaps turn to the middle, so you know where you last left the dial) then take out the screws on the bottom of the toaster and the bakelite "tray" will come off. It should be pretty self explanitory from there. I had to replace the cord on the toaster I gave to my mother. I found a replacement cord with those same eyelets at our local ACE hardware... but it was rubber, not cloth.

Good luck!

So cool!

It's great when we all offer help to one another. Pat Coffey, thanks for helping Shane out.

And Fred, I'm with you on the Sunbeam toasters. I'm still looking for a T9 with the jewel light and rounded top that doesn't cost a fortune. Sunbeam toasters are just so much fun.

Gentlemen~

Thank you all so very much!

Pat, I will take you up on your generous offer. Please shoot me an email. I would love to buy two if you have the black cloth cords. Yes, Fred. I know you are a fan of Sunbeam! When I saw your T-20 on the show, I figured you would know how to fix it so thanks a bunch! I'll give it a whirl, and see how it goes.. =)

Just a wild guess, but I'd bet that that toaster is the one appliance that is most commonly had by all the members on this site.

On the toaster I gave my mother, yes -- I put a rubber cord on instead of cloth.  I have two of the T20s -- an early one with a cloth cord, and a later one with the rubber cord.  The one that I'm using currently is the one with the rubber cord.  I have a piece of toast just about every day for breakfast; I use the toaster every day!

I also found a Sunbeam Vista toaster back in 2008 -- new in box... see link below!

:-)
