Help Pinpointed Noise on Maytag A806

I've ben trying to pinpoint the noise coming from my Maytag A806.

It is is knocking sound and happens on Large loads or heavy loads such as towels during agitation.
When I hold the tub with my index finger the noise goes away .

So it definitely is something knocking together or maybe a belt slipping? Any ideas?

This didn't happen until after it was serviced for a thud at the stop of the spin.

A serviceman came out and changed the worn belts and greased the brake. The thud stopped. It was after this service that the knocking started and a whining/squealing started sound as the washer goes into spin the first 10 second when the tub is full of water and the extraction starts.

It has a 90 day labor guarantee on his work. Since these 2 issues didn't start until he change the belts and greased the brake I'm wondering if has to do with those items.

I am not handy at all, but want to keep the machine in great shape.

The agitation ad spin are not sluggish at all.

The reason I started a new thread is a member started posting about the rinse button on older Maytag models and the thread sort of went that way.

I should add

I'm holding the outer tub with my index finger right where the serial number is. When I do the knocking sound stops during agitation. The noise doesn't happen when the washer is washing without clothes or on light loads.

So I'm not actually holding the tub, but the outer tub.

Hey there Floyde,

 

To be honest what your service guy did was fine.  He changed the belts.  I wouldn't expect a service guy to clean the pulleys, but more than likely the new drive belt is squealing for a little bit due to some residue on the drive or motor pulley.  You can clean the pulleys yourself with steel wool if you are concerned about the squeal, but nothing is going to break if you decide to let it go.

 

As for the knocking sound you are hearing, the brake package now has some lubrication to aid the shoes for when the machine stops from spin.  This is a good thing.  The knocking noise you are hearing would be the shoes themselves holding the transmission in place during heavy loads.  Again, the noise isn't going to hurt anything.  If you want it completely gone then I'd suggest looking into having a new brake package installed, but I've even seen new brake packages do the same.

 

If you want to ensure that your Maytag lasts for years to come, you may want to consider getting your hands dirty and start learning how to work on these machines.  They truly are pretty simple to work on, and there is plenty of service information available on AE.org, and there are tons of threads of folks who have documented their repairs and restorations.  I suggest this as you may have a harder time finding service from a 3rd party in the future.

That's just the scenario I was hoping to hear.
This machine had very little use since
It was in a vacation home. The house was then closed up for 5 years and put in storage for 2 more years during a remodel before being sold.

They do everything else they are supposed to do with Maytag precision.
