Help with a mystery UK automatic

can anyone of you brainy guys identify this washer my paremts had as wedding present in 1979, it lasted till 1986 doing a family of fours washing every day sometimes being on 4 times a day!
i enclose the only pic we had of it!

Looks like real INDESIT stuff ...

... Turin-made, before the Merloni co. arrival in 1985.
Door/ knobs / round lint trap tell me so

Not sure about this : it looks like one of those that couldn't drain without spinning. Diomede probably knows better as he had to do with one of them some time ago

Just about Indesit : the dishwasher plant in None (Turin) will not close, many jobs saved

I think its an indesit too
Knobs on the left and soap on the right like the one my nan had in the mid to late 70's hers went on till the late 90's think 500RPM spin.

Definately a late 1970s Indesit.

Diomede will defiantely know for sure - I think the picture i post below, was one i lifted from his Youtube page.

Diomede - please could you post the piccies in their full glory here?
They are superb studies of the L5, L6 and L8!

I am pretty sure that it is the UK's variation on the Indesit L8. Dont know the model number i am afraid.

From left to right, the piccy shows the Indesit L6, L5 and finally the L8, the latter possibly being the machine in the picture.

One of my Auntys had the L8GB, lovely looking but not as much fun to me when I was a child as it drained then spun, unlike the spin/drain on my other Aunts L5.

Nans was defiantly the one on the left of that grope, L6.

Large program selector on the left then the temperature in the middle and the power, no spin, economy selector on the right with a large power on light. If memory serves me right the water level was high near the middle of the door.

hi thanks ppl for identifying it, I remember it being put on the lorry to be taken away to the tip and crying when I was 4!

Mum use to put me in front of it to make me go to sleep!

Always was on boiling up the nappies on programme 1

Late 50s Indesit FL with sudsaver

I saw it when i was a child. Looked like a Bendix, backsplash slanted fascia, wide Constructa-like door and a hidden "sink" under the worktop (that actually was a lid). When the sudsave switch was on, main wash drain was pumped into the "sink". So @ the next wash one had to pull out the plug in the sink to let suds flow down into the tub.

Can't find any pic of it ... does anyone have one ?

Hi There,

My mums next door neighbour had this machine, defo L8, I think the L5 is just like it, but had soap dispenser on top & buttons. They spun at 400rpm, they were quite quiet on wash, but would spin to empty the water.

We had the L8, I always remember the yellow button on the facia. Mum still says it was the best washing machine she's ever had.

My mums next door neighbour had the L5 and I remember reading in her instruction book about the spin. Said something like, spinning for 7 mins, now your clothes are drip free, only 400rpm on these machines.

The L5 only had a spin of 380rpm, as you can imagine the clothes were pretty wet!! My Aunty used to spin everything in her little morphy richards spinner after washing in her L5.

I do seem to remember that 380rpm was not the worst spin at the time, there was a BOL Colston/Ariston that spun at 320rpm....yikes!!!

L8, L8, L8!!!

Hi guys!

Yes, it' an Indesit L8! I don't remember exaclty the year and mybe the L8GB the right code for UK market.

Timer on left, temperature control then on other knob with points indicator (... for high temp, .. for med temp, . for low temp)

The pushbuttonts was:
- ON/OFF
- BIO the yellow one the stop the timer where there was indicate biostop (I remember after have filled the mainwash)
- LONGSPIN/SHORTSPIN: as you know this is a model like L5 and other following like 092, 091, 2091 etc, with the famouse selfcleaning pump, and then longspin to extract completely the water with a long spindrain or shortpin for delicate cicle only to extract the water but not completely spin the laundry even that those machine weren't so hard in spin (400-500rpm maybe)

Here you are my creation... full size! From left to right
- L5SI, Alessandro (ISZ76 on youtube) is the owner, similar to L5LI by Riccardo (rikbio77 on youtube);
- L8 WANTED!!!
- L6 by Riccardo again (this was the model with separate draining pump)
- the control panel of an L6 or L7 with timed BIO by an UK member here but not remember...

I think it has had the final "IT" of the badge ripped off, as I can see over the switches the old Indesit logo (looks very similar to Fred Perry's one).
The left switch is sudsave/drain, right one on/off

So I take it the Gb version of the L8 was different as my Aunt's machine drained then went into spin, unlike the spin drain of the L5.
