Help with Kleenmaid Agitator Seal

Hi Team, great site!!! Can someone help me with a repair to a 10 yr old Kleenmaid washer. It has developed a leak through the spring loaded seal around the agitator shaft. I've removed the inner tub but am at a loss as to how to remove (and replace) the old seal. (the tub seal seems OK). Any advice, pictures, websites, or manuals would be greatly appreciated. I need to get this one done before my wife throws up her hands and has a new machine delivered. The clock is ticking!!! Thanks team. regards wipeout.

Have you got the replacement seal kit? I have changed these before and I think they come with instructions in the pack.

Where is the leak? Is it leaking soapy water from underneath, coming over the top of the gearbox? If so you need a complete bearing and seal kit, it will be the main seal not the agitator shaft seal. The one I did a few years ago needed the main seal but the whole lot comes in the pack - new seals, bearing, agitator centre mount and plenty more. I can't remember much detail about the job, but to do the lot the outer tub has to come out which isn't too hard, but getting it back together had its moments. I am a bit fuzzy headed as I am very tired but may have more to add tomorrow.

Seal Kit

I did this about 6 months ago, the kit has all the instructions, the only extra thing you need to get is the sealant, which isnt included.

It took me about 4 hours. The only really tricky part, was finding a shifter with a big enough mouth and short enough handle, to get it over the Nut that holds the tub mount is place. Once you have a tool that fits over the nut, the rest is easy.

The only other challenge, was to remove the plastic Agitator mount. Grasp either side of the agitator, and pull up. It shouldnt take too much force, and it will just lift off. The plastic spline that it mounts onto is an absolute bugger to get off, without a bearing removal tool. In the end I just used a chisel and a hammer and broke it off, but be carefull not to damage the metal shaft below.

I hope this helps somewhat, but the instructions in the kit are very easy to follow.

Thanks Chris & Nathan for the advice. I took the big leap on the w'end, bought the kit, followed your advice (& the instructions) and hey presto 5hours later it was done!! Encountered similar problems....difficult to remove the hex nut without the right tool and yep ....the agitator bell was a bugger to get off. But hey I stopped the wife buying a new machine!!!
