Hi all,
First off—I just discovered the forum this week while researching washer/dryer sets for a new home. It's amazing! What a charming little corner of the Internet—and one that's already been a huge help to me. So thank you all.
My wife and I just bought our first house and are in need of a washer/dryer set. Just us two at the moment but a baby is on the way; we typically do five or six loads of laundry, every ten days or so, in our current apartment's stackable set, a Whirlpool ThinTwin, I think.
My mother-in-law has owned a Miele set for the past 15 years and loves them, for all sorts of reasons. In our new place, laundry will be in the kitchen under a regular-height counter, so compact is a must for us. I've also been looking at lots and lots of appliances over the past few weeks, and there's something I just kind of love about the look of Miele laundry machines. They make me think of 2001: A Space Odyssey. All that to say—we're heavily leaning Miele.
But I'm really confused about the model numbers, and the more I search, the further away a decision seems to get. But I'm hoping someone here might be able to help!
On their website, Miele lists the WXD 160 WCS at $1,199 and the WXF 660 WCS TDos at $1,499. In addition, at some retailers (but not mieleusa.com), I'm seeing the WWB 020 WCS at $1,199 and the WWF 060 WCS at $1,499. Some places list the 020 as "Classic." The specs on them seem to be slightly different—different wash programs; the 020 seems to have a max spin speed of 1400 rpm, maybe?; WXF 660 comes with TwinDos while WWF 060 doesn't; etc. At the appliance showrooms we've been to, the salespeople haven't seemed know many details about the different Miele models.
Is there any method to what seems like madness? Some categorical difference(s) between the WX and WW models? I trust there is, but I can't for the life of me figure it out!
The basic questions motivating my research are, one: How do we decide whether or not to spend the extra $300 for one of the next-tier-up machines? And, once we've figured that out, question two: How to decide between the price-equivalent models?
Also, any advice or comments on stuff like whether TwinDos is useful and/or economical, which wash programs are a must, which aren't, thoughts on the dryer models, or really anything related would also be extremely welcome! Thank you in advance!!
