Help!

I'm moving into a new place soon and will lose my beloved Filter Flo washer. *moment of silence* (you'll soon learn why) Tragically, I'm fairly certain the new place which I love in every way has one major flaw: a Roper washer [which probably has the infamous Shredmore-esque agitator and crappy neutral drain]

So, got any ideas or strategies to make the Roper less craptastic? [short of breaking it...although if it broke....I think a new Speed Queen would fit in its place wonderfully]

Can't you talk

to the landlord/manager and take your Filter-Flo? Worth a shot, anyway.

If you have tried that, and there's no luck, just underload somewhat and hope for the best.

Deliberately destroying a machine, while tempting, would not be a good idea at all, and might get you kicked out and/or blacklisted.

Yes of course

I know the landlord well and would not deliberately break it. Perhaps this is my opportunity to snag the '50s Maytag wringer in my aunt's (recently deceased) parents. My grandparents and they knew each other well and would probably want someone to get use of it. She babied it so it should be in good condition.

I just dont get this thing in America about leaving appliances behind. In Australia whether you rent or buy, you take your washing machine with you.

When I moved in here the washer and dryer were here. I technically did not buy them. If I asked to take them, my current landlord's likely to want me to buy them (probably), since a previous renter left them here. (all units do not come with them).

So, It's Craigslist to the rescue!

Try this. Go on Craigslist and find a newer model kenmore/whirlpool set. I see them all the time for around 100-200 for the set. Sell the landlord on leaving him the newer(that's crappier to those in the know...) set and keep that 'older, beat up, worn out' ge set He'll think you're doing him a favor!
