Consumers were leery of dishwashers for many years. Many misconceptions and fears about how they function, cost of operation. It's still common to a surprising extent.
Mom's aunt (granny's sister) was very wary of the KDI-17 the first time she saw it loaded up and set to running at a family gathering. I recall the Soak cycle was selected. She made a low-voice comment when it paused, "I guess it has to fill." I imagine she thought dishwashers fill the tub completely with water like a clothes washer.

I donno. I love dishwashers.
I enjoyed these videos but is it true Cascade powder is crap now? I'm almost out of the now discontinued Finish powder and need to find a replacement.

I use it only for the prewash dose, until my supply of Fryer Boil Out (which is discontinued) is gone. I'm running a load today, will use the regular Cascade for prewash and wash and report the results.

This is the same guy who did a video of his Sharp Carousel Multiple Choice microwave which I thought was interesting. The dishwasher videos were interesting as well, some things I just learned about. Anyways, I do think by running the tab until it gets hot is a waste of water in my opinion so that's why I use that water to rinse my dishes out before turning my dishwasher on cause my kitchen tab does take a while to get hot. I do the same thing to my washer by rinsing the bleach cup out with hot water before turning my washer on but my laundry tab heats alot more quicker. As for detergents, I don't know about the Great Value kind from Walmart cause I've never used any of them before but I love the Kirkland pods from Costco that are cheap. I think they work better than any of the Cascade detergent we've used. My mom hated using powder so we switched over to using liquid which was better but our last jug we had to buy rinse aid for it. Pods appear to be the best but I've noticed it's been creating excessive foam especially without using rinse aid, at least that's with the Complete kind. I get those whenever they go on sale at Costco cause I like having the rotation between Cascade and Kirkland. I'd be willing to try out Great Value sometime and see how well they work, I'm also willing to give Cascade powder another shot to see if rinse aid would do the difference or not. But definitely for sure I won't be getting anymore Finish detergent, wasn't really too impressed with the Quantum pods from my last experience.

I like it but he leaves a lot of very important factors out but that’s okay because he isn’t a dishwasher enthusiast like most of us. He never mentions what detergent people should be using considering their water type which is really important. He never touches on the fact that older dishwashers are more reliable and quicker in cycle times, and that newer machines are prone to electronic failures and frustrations due to the computerized world we live in and that the government interferes with the capabilities of dishwashers. He’s awesome though, definitely knows what he’s talking about and I love that he advocates putting detergent IN the dispenser, the way it’s supposed to be.
I plan on making very in depth comparisons on my channel soon about older machines to newer machines, I want to cover points about what detergents to use in specific water types, machine maintenance, recommendations ect ect. Tips and tricks that the general community is unaware of. All kinds of stuff that I’ve learned over the past 15 years studying them and working on them and being so involved with them from someone who is younger & has a true interest for dishwashers and I’d love to share my deep knowledge for these amazing appliances that help us so much in our lives.

He does mention several times about water hardness and dosage, one of the reasons he prefers powder over pods/tabs.
I think he's too young to have much experience with dishwashers older than the 90's. Not all old dishwashers had great performance and reliability although most had quick cycle times.

I think I’d rather sit in the Dentist chair than watch this guy too long. He tries to know too much about too many different things and he misses too many important points.
I find among our customers that I very seldom have customers that are not happy with the performance of their newer dishwashers. There are definitely problems from time to time, but they can usually be pretty quickly solved by changing detergents or cycles and cycle options.

I picked up a box of Finish powder a week or so back at the Rexall drug store simply to try it on the 30 min quick cycle on my Bosch. They cycle is meant for very lightly soiled items and from what I can tell it's a 15 minute wash, where the detergent cup opens around the 5 minute mark. I put a couple of teaspoons directly on the door and also near filled the detergent cup.It follows with about a 15 minute rinse for the time remaining.I did a medium size load of dirty spaghetti plates, untensils, and the sauce pot, some coffee cups etc and surprisingly everything came out very clean except for some egg that was on a spatula. I wouldn't use it for a normal full load though that has a lot of greasy and or dried on stuff etc. But yeah for this kind of load it's impressive and probably better than what you could do by hand.
The usual 1 tsp + a smidgen more for prewash, 3.5 tsp for main wash. Normal Eco cycle to make it a tad more challenging (prewash, main wash 125°F, rinse, final rinse 125°F). Cleaning is good, all food evidence gone ... oatmeal ranging from fresh to 3 or 4 days, a serving bowl from pasta salad, several plates, various flatware, a few other items. There's a slight uptick in cloudy film on the stainless steel filter plate, which is expected considering my hard well water. Fryer Boil Out has phosphates. I could have added some STPP to the Cascade Complete main wash dose but opted not to do so.

I’m a big fan of Cascade powder. I use two tablespoons in the main wash and 1 in the prewash with my KitchenAid KDFE204KPS. I also have rinse aid programmed off as I don’t have a need for it. I just hit prowash and let the sensor do its thing. These 2nd gen manual filter machines are great! I have a family of 5 and every load is like a Bob load. Cascade gets the job done.
