I know its been a while but I was so disapointed by the whole thing with the non- cooperative family of the old appliance shop guy that i decided to lay low. Not to mention the emails I was recieving from certain members stating that I was just teasing or sitting on my butt instead of keeping on the family for stuff. I mean - come on - I don't care what was in there - they were grieving the loss of their father and I certainly wasn't going to hang around like a vulture. I did call and call and stop by as i could but no luck. Unfortunately it didn't work out for any of us. I got nothing and neither did anyone else. I'm sorry. I tried.

On a better note. I'm preparing for my move to the west coast and am taking the 60's model Programmed GE with me and NOT the Dispensall. Yes I know this sounds crazy after all I whined about when not having it. But I feel like since the Dispensall is such a treasure and there are so many unknowns out there I don't want to risk losing it. The 60's model is precious as well but I think I'd feel better about taking it. Plus its in great condition and is just as fun. When I get sorted and all then maybe I'll ship the other one. Who Knows.

Anyway...
That GE DOES need a new Tranny after all and I was wondering if anyone had any leads on a standard capacity Tranny for this machine. Please let me know. Also - I've been reading the posts but have I missed anything of major interest in the past few months - anyone get any neat old GE's? - I saw the posting of the one on ebay a few days ago but no one claimed it - It was a beauty - lighted console and a mini-basket to boot! Plus the black ramped activator- too bad!

Oh and did Robert get his Apex?

So sorry about your disappointment with the washer parts. I think a few of us have been down that road before. Not to worry; your treasure trove is just around the corner!!

For some reason, GE parts are outrageously priced. I know Austin needed a transmission for the Dispensall, and we were pretty taken aback when we saw how much it was. There are some members here with spare GE parts that may be able to help you. Drop Austin an e-mail. He may be able to at least start you in the right direction towards restoration.

Good luck on your move out west! Will you be there before those nasty Yankee winters? LOL

BTW: The Apex did not materialize. OY, that's one looooooonnng story!!

Anyone who would place blame on you, is not thinking right. You did what you could, plus went out of your way to try to make things happen with those treasures. You even had the photos to prove it.
Some things are just not ment to be, no matter what.

Hi All

Thanks for the well wishes. I'm moving to Southern Cali. - Los Angeles Area. I'm going out in January and will start looking for a job and a place while I stay with friends. Its alot to move anywhere let alone 3000 miles from your friends and family. But I'll be 30 next year and I want to have a clean slate and a fresh start.

I will def keep my eyes peeled for parts and yes I too have noticed that they are unbelievable expensive. Hopefully there will be some donors on the site.

So anyone in LA?

You're about a week late,I just junked a couple of GE FF's.I can look this weekend,supposed to go after another load. Are the FF transmissions pretty much all the same?

Well...

there are standard/ large capacity tubs (16lb) and extra large capacity tubs (18lb) and the trannys are dirrerent - the smaller capacity is an inch shorter than the larger. I need the shorter capacity model. But I think i may have one - let me know what you come up wiith also - what years were yours?

The first 3 years here I lived in San Francisco, but I am such a suburbanite I moved to this area. Hi Matt, that is one beautiful GE! LA is so freaking awesome I can't even find words to describe it. I lived the first 43 years of my life in Minneapolis and moved here about a year and a half ago. I just feel like I'm living in paradise, and I can't even imagine being anywhere else. I believe this is always where I was meant to be.

I hope the trip and job hunt all go smoothly, and I hope I'll have an opportunity to meet you once you're sorted. Scott

OK. Who's the wiseguy that outbid me for the WH38X38 std capacity transmission on ebay? Someone on this forum? Hmmm, this thread makes me suspicious...(LOL)

Anyway, I have spotted a number of good deals on GE F/F parts on ebay recently. I picked up a NOS motor for $15 (Thanks Goatfarmer for offering to send me one.)

Still looking for some misc parts including a 2-speed clutch, Filter Pan (to fit the white ramp activator), tub ring gasket, etc..

Matt, it might be culture and topographical shock for you at first in LA, but I think you're going to love it there. If you like car culture, you'll be in heaven. I'm a rare breed because I live in the Bay Area but LOVE LA, and you know growing up in Northern California it's supposed to be in your blood to be an LA hater. The fact is, LA is where it's at and the Bay Area is quite provincial in comparison.

What's not to like when this week LA has had temps in the 90's? My friend in Canoga Park said it was 101 there! If I didn't have commitments keeping me up north, I'd make the same move my sister did 20 years ago and start enjoying temperatures of 80+ on Xmas day. The gray and damp Bay Area winters have worn thin on me. Yeah, we seem spoiled here in Calif compared to places where they shovel snow all winter, and I'll be the first to admit that I hate the cold anymore. Hoping I can make the move south one day and live in a place where daytime temps in winter rarely drop below 75. Enjoy!
