Wanted to say Hi... I came across this looking for a motor for my washer. Found one on Ebay since but wanted to ask what year you think my machines are? I guessed about 1973. Grew up fixing the belt driven whirlpools with my father. It was fun junking for them, cursing when someone cut the power cord or damaged the console. Tearing apart and finding out what was wrong, or getting that older ones seeing how they cheapened and changed the part slightly. The Design 2000 (think that was the name for new ones)and parents divorce kind of killed it.

72-73 Kenmores

Hi Joe, thanks for posting pictures of your cool machines, these were very good fully featured machines when new actually having nearly all the options of the TOL Lady Kenmore models. If you post the serial #s we can tell you actually when they were built. Also myself or many others here on AW can answer about any question you might have with these machines.

What a beautiful set of kenmores you have there! Does the washers control panel have a light? I askl because it looks like there is a light on above the dryer's timer knob.

That dryer does have a console light above its timer knob. I use to have use of one of those dryers in an aptmt I lived in. I would think that the washer also has a light above the cycle timer to keep it matching with the dryer.

Also the timer knob on the dryer should be matching the washer. Looks like it might be missing.

But those machines are a nice set.

That is a handsome looking set. I would say these were 1972 models, but as John said you should post the model numbers so we can tell you for sure.

The washer did have a light. My dad was big on eliminating points of failure when we rebuilt these. Even lights, arghh.. So the soap dispenser, "water falls" and four port pumps got removed. Soap door was glued down, hoses cap plugged. I loved all the bells and whistles. I talked him into keeping the dual tank bleach and fabric softener reservoirs. Of course the port on the tank bottom broke off a few years later.
It was still fun fixing the trash ones. He would sometimes add a spin tube bearing (or use wider one on both ends), replaced tub washers with repair kit ones, Permatex the hell out of that, all tub ports, center seal. Not sure why but he would Permatex the t-bearing? and little ball down. Reinforce the cabinets at bottom cracking points (newer ones). I saved older short support brackets that had the full nut to replace newer stripped threaded only ones (probably me over tork ing). Got many that lasted 20 plus years.

Looks like my Aunt's machines

They bought all new matching harvest gold Kenmore washer, dryer, range, refrigerator when they bought their first house, which was probably about 1973. It's been too many years to swear to it being the exact model and year, but it's pretty durn close.

Am I right that it has a white enamel tub and a harvest gold 2-way agitator? I know there's a dispenser externally, but was there a softener dispenser perched on top of the agitator?

The last time I saw my aunt's washer, the tub was completely rust stained from well water, but otherwise it was still going strong in the mid 80s. No idea how much longer it went after that.

Yeah dryer timer knob broke (plastic). Used a spare to get it going. Got the JB weld to re-form when I get time. Probably just form the shaft, metal line it, and fill it all in around.

Mostly white basket, Rotor Swirl agitator. Yeah, that is a white out cap I used to plug the dispenser hose.

Nice capacity on that washer, I wonder when WP/Kenmore came out with the larger capacity wash basket. It makes the capacity on my Kenmore 800 look pale by comparison. Your model's capacity looks great!!!
