this past Sat, I was headed to pick up a Kitchen Aid dishwasher.....this sort of falls under an estate sale, but backwards, its in a new development, and the last to go was the model homes.....

well as this one sold, fully furnished, the buyers didn't want anything....so everything had to be removed, or sold, and to move things fast in one weekend, very cheap.....furniture, carpets, appliances, and accessories....most stuff was 100.00 to 300.00...priced to go, and throwing things in to get rid of them...

I lucked out with the dishwasher as no one brought tools to remove it, it was hard wired and pex plumbed direct.....simple cutters and a few screws, and its all mine...

when I got home and searched, it about 4 years old, it has been run a few times, and worked for me before I removed it....apparently Sears and Lowes carries this model, to be discontinued...for around $800.00.....I paid $75.00.....

this is the second time I found stuff like this, the last time was two sets of Neptunes that were staged in these homes....so what I am thinking, as I drive past these developments, to go in and check them out, and maybe put my name/number in, if the model homes sell, and they want to get rid of some of this stuff....I want to check it out....it can't hurt....

I mean, how much wear and tear is there really going to be, granted they may be a few years old...but close enough to new......probably the carpets get the most use, but still looked nice...and you know the bedding and furniture isn't worn in....sometimes this stuff is just put in place for staging...

anywho....somewhere along the line, I lost/misplaced the clips that secure it to the countertop, so I ordered two more off ebay....too much excitement over the deal...wishing I got there earlier, could have probably got the whole kitchen...

can't wait to get it installed.....it is Stainless on Stainless....a lot of features, and a lot of little accessories/baskets, going to need a bin just for those when not in use...got manuals and instructions as well...

model KDTE104DSS Kitchen Aid........apparently a few models have a third top rack for utensils, that would have been interesting to have, but this is still a gem...and man do they have some insulations around this thing, rubber padding/coating all over, and foam insulation wrap...plus all the extra pieces along the base...

so far I do like that it doesn't wash single levels at a time, all wash arms work all of the time......one nice feature is the top rack is removable for tall pots or cookie sheets....the racks are huge, and seem to hold a lot.....

so next time you drive by a newly established development....see if the model home may be up for sale as the last to go, and who knows, the furnishings may be up for sale.....just a thought....

were both a bit off.....it comes up as a manufactured code for FEB 2009....I didn't think it was that new.....I was figuring within 3 to 6 years.....

still, not bad.....not like it was BOL stuff as what you would usually find...

if I had the choice, I would have taken the house as a whole, had a garage sale, and then buy what I wanted...the lady said, it usually doesn't affect the price of the house....this is factored in because of it being a model home...well, we learned something new...

this just hit me......never seem to find a real TV in a staged home.....usually none, or made out of cardboard...

I don't know what to tell you....this is what Appliance411 showed as a date code....and yeah, the controls are on the top.....I always wondered, how do you turn it on/press start with the door closed.....but you have 3 seconds to hit it, and close the door...and theres this tiny dot in the corner with colors as to what it is doing...

those top controls are not a new thing, I have been looking at these for a few years, thinking, some day....but my budget for a new one would be close to a plastic tub version...trying then to keep an eye at Lowes for their clearance sales........and was considering a Maytag version...

this is going to be a new adventure once I get it installed...

a shame its not one of the new ones with the window in the door.....can't have everything...

I have been bringing dishes downstairs to see how they fit....I like the tall tub design, especially when I can fit dinner plates in the top rack...

but I am sure there will be pros and cons to it....

its replacing a KUDS23....I do like it, but its racking can be a bit challenging, and some of my plates are too tall...this might end up in Mark's collection...

Ok....so he's all installed.....which took like only minutes....those rear wheels help a lot...

from having dishdrawers, the cabinets have this thin stryofoam and foil surround glued to them, sides/top/back, at this point, just added insulation...makes for a really snug fit....

Mark educated me on the pros and cons of this type of machine.....so I know what to be on the look out for, but so far, I am loving it, its claim is to hold 14 place settings, well it does hold a lot, I am practically washing everything I have....

I would have liked a count down timer of some sort, just to know where along the cycle it is at...the lights don't do much for you, on/trouble/complete....

I like the Soak N Scour in the Pots and Pans cycle.....while heating the water, it does these 5 second burst of the motor cycling to 'wet' everything, about ever 2 minutes, not just steaming the food off...

I like the handle that matches the fridge, also doubles as a towel rack....but of course stainless has to be polished a lot...just use baby oil, and buff off the excess works best...tried polishing the interior, but that only last until the next wash....may be car wax?

Cool that you can place plates in the upper rack.  What size plates are those in your upper rack?

Still curious about the upper plate size Martin.

There is the same situation with me and a builder that called me and said they have what I think to be this same unit for sale that you bought at your find.  He said that no ever places a bid on Builder Dishwashers so lucky for me.

I know you are busy getting ready for your sleep over.

I was just wondering what was the size of you plates in the upper rack.

Brent, given most WP made TTs are pretty much the same, with the top rack in the lower position, I can get 10 to 10.5" plates in the upper rack as well as the lower rack.  In the upper position, the plates are about 7 to 8" max and can get 12" to 13" plates in the bottom.  Sometimes I'll put all the plates in the top rack so the horribly grungy stuff goes in the bottom.

I have a 2004 Maytag TallTub.....its upper rack has two positions, but an added benefit is its staggered, one side is deeper than the other, this also helps for the bottom rack to put cookie sheets along the opposite side....but just the same, big dinner plates will fit on the largest side of the top rack...

as for the Kitchen Aid, the top rack has two positions, but is even across the whole rack, and you can't tilt it, its either up or down....the big dinner plates are 10 1/2", they will fit the top, in the lowest position, but you have to start about the second slot back from the front, as they will tilt in order for the rack to slide in.....

smaller 9" plates stand straight up.......7" salad plates have more than enough room with the rack in the upper position.....my only down side, is with the rack in the lowest, the biggest plates hit the wash arm....so you have pros and cons of which position its in...still, I can't complain

another nice feature is the upper rack has these clips that pop out to allow the upper rack to be removed for washing tall pots or cookie sheets.....probably the only thing that would be missing is a 'Top Rack Only' option, for washing like a load of glassware, that seems to fill faster than the rest of the machine...

its a typical 24" machine, but seems to hold a heck of a lot compared to the other machines....seems I am only running it every other day, not once a day as before...

and noting, since I got this one, several have been popping up on CL for around 200.00.....all this time, I could not find one for a low price, especially in stainless....

pic 1 is in the upper position......there is only like a 1 3/4" difference between the two settings....pic 2 and 3 are the lower setting....

you will be surprised as to what you can fit in there....I have a lot of dishes, and just about wiped out my cabinet filling the machine.....this is where I mention of having enough dishes to fill the machine, and having spares to use...

when you go to view this machine, take a few pieces with you to try out...
