I own one of these and have has and used it for about ten years. Ihave a problem I cannot solve if someone could help please?
The agitator only turns in one direction for a few seconds then when it goes to change direction it goes silent for a few seconds. It then goes in the first direction. Seems it"s lost it"s ability to turn the other way. Any suggestions please?
If I could I would buy a new one.

Welcome. If I could buy a new Panasonic twintub I would, but the only place I find them sold is Kuwait.

My Electrofrigiwhite FL reverses by timer command to the motor module. Whereas in classic Maytags and GEs the timer directly switches the motor windings. Or the module can do it itself. So there is more than one way to do this. I don't know how the Hitachi reverses electrically. But the module has no mechanical failure points, if it goes wonk it's more likely to quit altogether. While the timer has mechanical contacts any one of which can fail.

The bad news is, many appliance parts get orphaned at 7 years. You may have to settle for one direction. My 1973 Panasonic only ran one direction and that never caused a problem.

ebay maybe

Hi Dave these do appear sometimes on ebay, although you need it to ne near where you live.
If you like twin tubs, you can get a Haier 6kg,(which I own) and apparently the company called Palsonic have just released 2 new models on the market one is 6.5kg and the other is a very large 8kg model.
I believe there is another 6 or so kg model around but I cannot recall who the manufacturer is.
Hope this helps you.
Cheers.
Steve.

timer?

timer could be at fault-this presuming your machine uses a split capacitor motor for the agitator/impeller where there are 3 wires and power is applied to one side or the other of the capacitor for each direction.

I have no idea if these are belt driven or direct drive....if you can see a belt from the motor to the agitator, then you'll have your answer....

...and I say that just in case the belt is slipping in one direction. Make sure it's not.

Check the wash action selector - I can't find your model online but other Hitachi twin tubs have a dial to select wash action - normal or soft. On "soft" it only agitates one way. The reverse direction is blocked on the gentle cycle.

Otherwise the normal/soft selector might have a dud contact, or the main wash timer might also have a dirty contact.
