KDS-19

They are going to be sorry that they gave this up for a new Kitchen Aid. Wait until they find out that the new one does not wash as well and that it will fall apart in a year or two.

Question

Would this model have a third spray arm or sprinkler-type sprayer on the very top, to spray down on the top rack items?

I believe that is a KDS-20, not 19. The 19 series was titled Energy Saver IV; this one says Energy Saver V. Also, it has a metal air diffuser in the back for the fan forced drying Still a great machine! I have the KDP-20; it's awesome!

No Doug. I do believe the constant rinse (as it was called) feature was discontinued with the 18 Series.

I have a KDC-18 that has the constant rinse sprayer, my KDS-19 dosen't. Good call on the metal diffuser. My KDS-19 has the plastic one. I guess they skipped a series.

KDS-20

I have the KDS-19 and the KDS-60 (portable version of the KDS-20 I'm assuming). The 19 is the Energy Saver IV and the KDS-60 is the ES V. Neither has the constant rinse on the top. They both only have the two main spray arms. Because of this I find it necessary to prerinse just a little before loading because sediment on the top rack can be an issue.

The cycle are fairly similar on both with some minor changes between the two.

KDS-19 has: Pots/Pan/Soak & Scrub
Normal
Heavy
Light
Quick Wash (no dry)
Rinse/Hold
Cycle Cancel
KDS-20 (60): Pots/Pans/Soak & Scrub
Heavy
Low Energy
Sani-Cycle
Rinse/Hold
Cycle Cancel
No-Heat Dry option

My understanding with these two are that there was no heated drying at all in the 19 series. The KD-60 does dry with fan-forced heated air (and does a nice job too). Even with the heat option turned off it does relatively well at drying. The Low-Energy wash cycle cuts out all of the prerinsing cycles and goes straight to soap dispensing and washing. Sani cycle heats the final rinse. Otherwise I think that's just the normal wash cycle. Heavy has a couple of prerinses and Pots/Pans has a few. Every cycle preheats the initial fill before washing. Pots/Pans pauses and heats each prerinse.

Overall I think the machines do pretty well but, again, if it's something really soiled you're better off doing a little handy work on it before throwing it in the wash cycles.

These machines are built so tough and sturdy it's unbelievable. The tub interiors are the best by far of anything I've seen. If anyone is familiar with these two machines, there is one major perk the 20 has over the 19 (at least in my opinion). Anyone care to take a guess at this minor but very useful difference?

My KDS-19 has the adjustable upper rack as well as the KDS-19 that I pillaged for parts.

KA series 20 dishwasher Energy Saver V

Hey, I have this unit in my kitchen, Shawn & I use it everyday, it does not have, fourth time, a top spray arm, only two, one under each rack, We are having a problem..!!! With the heavy wash cycle. I open up to put dishes away, and find clean, water, alot of it in bottom of dishwasher....have to cancel cycle to drain...what is going on? Does anyone know? I have a great repairman for Hobart units, he says they are so well engineered, two screwdrivers completely solves> all dis-assembly efforts, or sometimes just one. Also, yes, you have to pre-rinse some, and top rack does always have some sediment or water after it's finished....Have found that the Cascade w/dawn works good for heavy soil and Electrosol, now, Finish...Even checked our jet dry well, it was full...some glasses are not clean as they used to be....is there a filter that needs to be cleaned besides the turquiose pull out ??? ((And the big screen unit under impellar ??))...the other KA SupWrba has a plate warm cycle,a push button, is nicer inside. We like the looks of this model 20 with our "art deco kitchen"..Blck&white)..Magic Chef built in broiler/OVEN and gas cook top with 4 burners in Stainless Steel countertop system one full wall....all orig. cabinetry.....1939-1940, and still works, all units like new....this bitch will bake for the next generation and broils steaks and bread, great, will send pictures of all applianes in my collection soon....(1972 PE7 double Oven GE range, Harvest GOLD, Perfect condition, just acquired, lots of chrome, w/rotisserie) soon.
