Last week I brought home two beautiful Electric Sinks.

The first is a Homart (Sears). This machine was brought to the clubs attention by Robert in discussion thread #20759 on February 8th. I immediately wrote to the sellers, Mary and Burt Harrington, who own a country store in the small town of North Egremont, located in the extreme southeast corner of MA. As I understand, this Electric Sink was in the living quarters of the store. Although they had some other inquiries, I ultimately agreed to buy their machine. I started investigating shipping options and costs, which were going to be very high due to the weight and size of the unit.

In the meantime, I was searching the aw.org discussion threads and came across Greg’s (“gregm”) post from 2007, thread #14154, describing his “Never used GE dishwasher/sink combo”. I wrote to Greg on March 2nd, inquiring about this machine and what he had done with it. He wrote back that he had never used it, and, in fact, wanted to get rid of it. So we came to a sales agreement by that afternoon. However, I still had the same issue of how to get this Electric Sink from Massachusetts to Peoria.

After some research, I decided that the least expensive way to get both of these Electric Sinks back to Peoria, was to go get them myself. They wouldn’t fit in the back of my Honda sedan, so I bought a used pickup truck. After some extensive repairs, the truck was road ready on April 27th. My Dad and I got on the road Tuesday morning April 28th to make the 2200 mile round-trip drive to Greg’s home, and the Harrington’s country store. On the way back, I stopped at Al’s home (“maytagluver”) to pick up the controversial Harvest Gold 806 set for Jim (“autowasherfreak”), and a Poppy Red Frigidaire 1-18 for me. We arrived back in Peoria late Friday afternoon.

Inside the dishwasher

There is one slight problem - the drain valve was missing! I can barrow the one from my other G.E. Electric Sink, but I sure would like this machine to have one of it's very own. I had recently created a different post inquiring if anyone has one of these drain valves in their parts stash. I may have to resort to having a couple made using the one I have as a pattern - which is what Paul had suggested.

Installation Guides included

This machine has the original installation guides for both the DE-748 and the DE-848. The Model/Serial Number plate has DE-848 stamped, but according to the installation guide, that machine had a pump with drain outlet mounted on top of the sink, similar to the aerator. But this machine clearly does not have that option - it has a gravity drain hookup. And there appears to be a "7" scribed overtop of the "8" on the serial number plate. So I'm not sure what happened when the serial number plate was stamped.

Underneath

The shipping block is still in place.

OH, and the original Water Valve is also missing! Just my luck. It should be attached to that copper fitting. It and the Drain Tube must have been taken from this machine to be used for parts a long time ago. However, a generic GE Water Valve will work just fine, as I've already found out on two of my other GE Dishwashers.

Drool!

That electric sink is to DIE for!!! AND you got that Homart one as well! Congratulations - you are truly on your way to becoming dishwasher Royalty!!
And do let me know if you need to outsource the rebuild of the drain valve assembly. The fella at Fitch Bay Hardware keeps asking me if I need anything rebuilding!!

Greg saying goodbye to the G.E.

If I have my facts correct, Greg said that this machine came from Pennsylvania, in October 2007. It was intended to be installed in a vacation home of some sorts, but sat in heated storage, never to be installed.

Control Knob

I found one other posting about Homart Dishwashers in the discussion threads by "Gyromatic" in September 2006 - thread #8179.

Is this the only Homart Electric Sink owned by a club member?

Impeller and cap

The impeller is chipped at the top of the left side, and when I tried to unscred the cap on top, it broke in two pieces. I have not tried to remove the impeller yet?

I'm sure that there is a spare impeller and cap out there somewhere!? Ha, Ha!

Wash Party?

Paul, As a matter of fact, I'm thinking about having a Wash Party in July to celebrate my 1 year anniversary as a member of aw.org.

Yes, southwestern corner of MA.
