Appears the current owner acquiired from the original owner. Our street was the 1961 Houston Parade Of Homes. And I gather the original owners purchcased the house after the end of that event. I remember my dad telling me the living room flooded during Hurricane Carla (September 1961) and they ended up putting in a sump pump. I have sseen a couple of real estate listings over recent years where the description included the phrase The Original Street Of Dreams. Appears the kitchen had GE appliances over the years. Double ovens, cooktop, and roll out dishwasher vent grill was black instead of the usual off white. They bought the bottom mount fridge that had been in the display. There was a water fountain behind the accent brick wall next to the driveway. Intended to keep kids traffic out. I only was in the house about 2 or 3 times. Glad to see the original candy-stripe cusions were maintained over the years. Their washer & dryer were probably ones they bought as they weren't matching. Fflo washer with filter flume at 12 o'clock. White panel with turquoise lettering, timer dial, and vertical toggle switches for water temps and water saver. Their dryer had a blackface timer dial and corresponding accents on the control panel. There was just a push down to start toggle paddle. I think it was timed dry only, I didn't notice an air fluff cycle on the timer dial. Their son was near my age. Daughter a couple years younger.

Lawrence, no the handrail isn't original. I'm not sure how long the couple lived there. The husband died in 2015 and the wife just passed away late Januaryr--8 months shy of her 100th b-day. I had noticed the house hadn't been sold. I do believe this family was the last of the original owners on our street. My parents moved to retirment apartment in 2002 and my other mother passed away in 2014 and her kids didn't sell the house until around her death. Lawrence, just occurred to me this house also had a Nutone built in kitchen center. Unfortunately, none of the real estate pics show that area of countertop in the kitchen. Although it could be under where the microwaave is.

Bob, it looks like you lived in a very nice neighborhood as a child. The house reminds me slightly of one my Aunt Doris lived in, which was a couple blocks from the Gulf of Mexico in Long Beach, MS, from 1961 to 1963. It had a sunken family room off the kitchen. That house unfortunately didn't make it intact during Hurricane Katrina, and the aerial picture I saw showed only a concrete slab and porch there afterwards.

1961 house in great condition

I love the red Preway fireplace, I helped install one of those in a beach house many years ago. It worked really well. It was all porcelain enamel.

House is really in great condition. It’s nice that they didn’t wreck the design of it. Only thing they really did makes it look awful is all those ugly ceiling fans, but they can be removed.

My only other concern is, it’s on an awfully level lot. I would be afraid of a flood sooner or later, I never like houses that aren’t on a hill and preferably near the top of it.
