Homemade pasta is the BEST !

I never tried it until about 10 yrs ago.
I saw one of the cooks on TV make it (probably MaryAnn Esposito or Lydia) and decided it looked fairly easy to make so I tried it.
I got some semolina flour, eggs and a couple of tablespoons of olive oil and even bought a pasta machine to roll out the pasta after I made the dough.
Understand that I LOVE garlic.
For me, you just can't have too much garlic.
So, I soaked about 5 garlic cloves in some olive oil for a few days and the next time I made homemade pasta I used 2 tablespoons of that in the mix.
To die for !
Absolutely the best pasta I've ever had.
Its alot better than the dried store bought stuff in a box!
Plus, it was fun to do.
I've also used the machine to make fettucini and homemade ravioli.
Heres a picture of the machine I use that I bought locally at one of our hardware stores (LaTorre Hardware).

~Wanna have a bear for dinner?
How do you cook a bear? Sliced thin and fried well? :-)

Hey Butch, I got that same hand-cranked pasta machine used for $5 at the thrift store. Beat that, bitches! :-)

Lucky you Toggleswitch!

I've never seen them at any Thrift place around here.
I've checked the Imperia website and now they even have them
hooked up to electric - no more handcranking.
No matter how ya do it - homemade pasta is da bomb !

{{{sigh}}} only $5.00

Hey Toggle!

I was going to brag that I got mine for $6 at a thrift store, but you even beat me!

Ampia Nudelmachine - Machine à Pàte

Got mine bascially MIB at a local thrift as well.

Took it out of the box, made some pasta dough, cranked out a batch, cleaned unit up, put back into box, put box onto shelf, there the thing has sat for a few years now. *LOL*

Least the box looks nice for decoration, but hand cranking out noodle dough just isn't up my street.

See it there all gleaming?

Dontcha just LOVE a bah-ghin?

I refuse to pay through the - - - for whole wheat pasta, so maybe I'd best make my own!

One of these days I'll actually use the thing!

P.S I don't DO canned veggies, except for soups. And even then I normally buy the size of can that is half the size shown...but those no-names were on sale!

Also trying the Ramen noodle soups for the first time.

The iced tea maker is for the Gadget. (White, on its side, to the right of the pasta thingie). Much healthier than the powdered mixes that are bad for kidney stones.

Oh don't you just love gadgets!!!!! Steve what is next to the Faberware electric skillet????

I refuse to pay through the - - - for whole wheat pasta,

That's about the only pasta I buy and have since my 2001 surgury. It took a bit to get used to the taste difference. I try not to think of the price diffference between whole wheaty and reguar pasta. Try to stock up when store has whole wheat on sale. Was the main reason why I entertained the thought of getting a KA mixer at one time, for the pasta attachment. Togs, as coordinate (lack there of) as I cam, can you see me trying to use one with a hand crank instead of an electric pasta maker?

I found one of those pasta machines at the local junk emporium a few months ago. an Atlas iirc made in Italy, better yet it came with about 6 different pasta shape attachments cutters none of which had been used all still sealed in their boxes. All that was missing was the C clamp to hold it to the table but any C clamp worked. I only paid about $10 for it as well and gave it a friend of mine. They do sell electric motors to fit onto them if you go to the mfctrs website. Personally it's too much bother for me, I have an electric Pasta Express somewhere I haven't used in years
Here's their website and there's some recipes as well

Bob - if there is a Whole Foods Market near you, their house brand whole wheat pasta is very edible. That is the only brand that I have found that isn't gritty and crumbly - texture is much more like regular pasta. In fact, the last time I made it, I had to recheck the empty package because no one believed it was whole wheat pasta.

I have a hand cranked pasta maker too. I don't use it often but admit the homemade pasta is better tasting than store bought pasta. I make whole wheat when I use it. Sometimes I add a little basil or oregano to the dough, and a little garlic of course.

Free-licious is delicious!

Yes, I love my Gadget, er gadgets.

Directory:
Top shelf- Food (obviously)!
3rd floor- Rear- juicer, 3qt/3L Farberware electric pot (from the 50's, I think), iced-tea maker. Front: mini-chopper and pasta machine.

2nd floor - 6qt/6L electric soup pot, Farberware electric frying pan. Wonderful to cook something with safe electricity rather than gas when nappoing during the day!

1st floor- left: crock pot/slow/cooker, right multi-funcion rice cooker.

The irony, Terry is that I can't use the nice (cool) electrics in summer when the A/C is on... lack of sufficient power.. I have to cook with (hot) gas!

Hey Chuck if you claim to be the bigger "bitch", who am I to argue.. *LOL* :-)
