Re. why so many of us here are gay:

Western cultures have a weird attitude about machines. If a machine is used outside the house, it's for men. If a machine is used inside the house, it's for women.

However, guys being guys, are just naturally interested in machines, and if left to their own devices (ha), wouldn't care whether a machine is inside the house or outside. Except that for most (straight) guys, the arbitrary distinction between "indoor" and "outdoor" stands in the way. (Just as it was for women and heavy construction equipment until recently.)

But gay men have already had to overcome a bunch of arbitrary social programming & prejudice about how men are supposed to be, when it comes to the question of falling in love. So that makes us more likely to challenege other types of arbitrary social programming about how men are supposed to be. The result of the latter is that we don't care if a machine is indoors or outdoors, or which gender is supposed to like playing with which machines.

So, of all the guys out there who are interested in the indoor machines, the gay ones are more likely to speak up about it.

But you can be sure there are a lot of straight guys out there who have similar interests. And kudos to the straight guys & gals who hang out here, having overcome the silly social nonsense about indoor machines vs. outdoor machines, without having to deal with the trials & tribulations of being a persecuted minority.

Thanks for the info on great grandmas old phone, Designgeek. I could tell it was a bakelite type,but that was all I knew. Can recall the pattern in the rug also. If you look at the toe areas of my shoes,you can tell that I was crawling,and not walking at that this point. Great Grandma Clara was also holding me up from the back,and my older brother Greg had me from the side. Meanwhile,I was trying to crawl to Brokeback Mountain..... LOL!!

I always thought it must be the hoses and the pumps and the sucking and the gushing. I just made that up, because I'm clueless about the phenomenon, having found out about it only a few months age.

You all know that most large universities offer a gay studies major. I wish someone would do a dissertation--that's the infamous 150 page term paper you have to do to get a PhD. Thousands or hundreds of interviews, analysis, interpretation, common threads, etc---WAIT A SECOND--we could do it right here.

WHAT IS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN BEING GAY AND LOVING WASHING MACHINES? They would not word it that way but who cares.

There's a lot of money here, guys and gals. If AWORG puts out a book imagine all the machines we could buy and restore from the millions we'd make.

Maybe we use the blue towel much more than most and like/need to get rid of the evidence.

Easy. Catch this. We use the masculine energy to fix and restore. Use feminine energy to actually care for, and nurture, amd run a house by doing laundry.

We are complete and whole within ouselves by having and allowing both masuline and feminine energies to flow freely to and be on-tap. An attempt to complete ourselves via getting the other side of the component of the necessary ying-yang energy from another person is not necessary.

In summary, after breaking society's biggest rule, the rest, like proudly doing laundry come easier.

good point. if you are hostage to other peoples opinions and approval you will likely never identify as gay. and you will certainly never identify yourself as a household appliance enthusiast. its easy to like cars or guns, since so many others do! i will admit, i still have to get up the courage to identify myself as a vacuum cleaner lover to people i dont completely trust. i have NO qualms about identifying as homosexual. ive always admired people willing to stand up and be an individual. there arent many out there!

I think the reason that there are alot of mos on this sight is that mos posess a little more creativity than the average joe. I know this sounds stereotypical. I have a hard time trying to say what i want to say sometimes. Look at the way appliances were made. Shiney chrome, great colors, lights and buttons. Appliances were fabulous then compared to the way things look now. Even though i lack a few gay genes i'm still drawn to shiney things. I belong to a vacuum cleaner club where the majority of the members are gay men. We don't know what the connection is either. What am i trying to say here? Ugh! Things were simpler back in the day. Appliances were made well, built to last. With character in their colors and chrome. And we, gay and straight, miss those times or would like those times back. Well there you are. Try to make sense of that.
