Hoover 150

This is a special machine from 1939!! They stopped making them like this. Automatic height adjustment and two speeds. Put this one together from two machines. Those bags with the strap never lasted. But the machine itself was built like a Sherman tank. Now to get the converter (thanks little Fred).

Converter

The converter inserted into the side of the base to which you attached the hose and the tools for above the floor cleaning. I have the tools and the tool carrier, but not the hose or the converter. Fred S. has a converter that he has offered to send to me. A later hose will work, but we vac folks like everything original. I know Charlie W. has the original hose. I may visit him and lift it while I am there!!

Beat a Dyson

I will agree that the suction with the hose can't beat a Dyson, but I will match this puppy up against a Dyson for rug cleaning anytime!!!

In tests I do at home-those old Hoovers will give a Dyson a GOOD run for the money-Its amazing the Hoovers clean as well as they do with their smaller motors-but more efficient airpath system than the Dyson.And I would give that Hoover 150 higher marks on the Durability test-Will the Dyson still be running and used 50Years from now?I used to have a machine similar to the 150-but it died-was amazing how long it lasted.I have some other older Hoovers that are running fine and cleaning well today.they have the outer cloth bags that can use the paper inner bags-would be so cool if DVC or some other bag company could make Filtrete bags for these machines-lots of 'em still cleaning floors today.They would benefit from the better filtration of the newer bags.

Congrats Fred, that 150 is beautiful!
I know of two others that look so nice, one is in the Hoover Historical center, and the other belongs to Tom Anderson.
The 150 was a landmark machine for Hoover too...

I have a converter for the Hoover machine=-Keeping it for my collection-And also have an attachment kit for the Hoover Convertible uprights-the tools are sort of like Kirby's-the kit even has a demother.The Kirbys definely win with the hose and tools-the intake on the Hoover converter is very small and doesn't allow airflow from the Hoovers Efficient fan and motor system.I have mine and keeping it for collection sakes. don't use it much-also clogs easily.I am afraid the Dyson would win here-with the hose.The Hoovers more powerful brushroll is better than the Dyson's-have two Dyson machines-DC07 and the DC15 "ball"The Ball isn't too bad of a vac.It does have a better and larger-more powerful brushroll than the DC07-but still not on a par with the Hoovers.

Who would want a Dyson......................

when you can have a Dreyfuss designed Hoover 150 or the like? Dyson's are as disposable as spouses. Molded injection plastic machines with a "Barbie's Dream House Brushroll." I wouldn't want to even brush my hair or my cat's hair with that rinky-dink agitator. Then emptying a bagless vacuum, what fun! You get to have dirt/dust/germs/filth and debris blow all over your body and face and STILL, the famous cyclones are not truly empty of crud. What a fabulous invention!

Fred, btw, I played with the lux 60 earlier today, (we were out when you called), and did get it rigged with a power outlet for a p/n and all connections work. Now getting it back together with the bag popper working is another story. I think I may have to visit Clay next week and let him take a look at it. The body, runners, and lux plating has turned out beautifully and I think you will be impressed by the power port for the p/n. I used an Air-Way outlet at Chuck's suggestion. THANK you so much for both vacs!!

I'll keep you posted on developments. Greg is sending me a 60 too so I'll have another donor machine if needed.

Now about that 150 hose...........what do you think I asked you here for? Company? I thought you were gonna help me!!

Sure you can, with a big club!

The only thing the Hoover 150 and Dyson have in common is they both stirred up the vacuum world.
Henry Dreyfuss' design with very new and forward in 1936, and the 150 was totally new from the ground up, a real risk for Hoover who really hadn't done anything new with the vacuum for 10 years before the 150.
Mr Dyson's designs are forward too, now to just tweak them some...
Sir James is no Boss Hoover.

When I "Empty" my Dysons-I use another vac that has a bag to collect the stuff-I can agree-the Dyson is just not up to par with the "Classic" machines such as Older Lux,Air-Way,TriStar,Rainbow,Kirby,and so on.these were designed and built to last-How long will the Dyson last-How often will you have to repalce that "Barbie Brushroll" to maintain its performance??And to top it off the Dyson DC07 sereies machines ahve to be sent to the factory or Dyson servicecenter to replace that "Designer Brushroll"Love that term-it fits it perfectally.Oreck capatolizes on dumping bagless vacs and shows the "Cloud" of flourescent poweder when dumping ?? He must have used the Dyson to pick up a broken Flourescent bulb.Would be kinda cool.

However, it wouldn't hurt to hide that 150 hose when I come visiting! Temptation can be a bad thing. How is Todd handling all those 60s? He has the patience of Job. You really need to set up a workshop.

That is a beautiful machine, Fred! Congrats on getting it complete too, that can be a challenge. Hoovers of the 30's & 40's are my favorites. I nearly soaked my shirt drooling over the models at the Hoover Historical Center, what a beautiful sight they were...
