Hey guy’s desperately looking to find a long gearbox shaft “post”
For a Hoover 700 series cast iron transmission.
If anyone knows of a place that could still have one about.
It’s the last part needed to complete a restoration

Does that have a heater?

Hi Tommy,

I can't help you with the transmission, however if that has a heater and a polypropolene tub, be very careful with it. There is a design fault that causes the heater to be powered on throughout the entire cycle if the thermostat fails ... melting through the tub and causing the machine to leak. Back in the 60s/70s in the days of metal tubs, it just melted the agitator and burnt the clothes ...

We got a free replacement tub out of warranty when my partner proved the flaw to Hoover by walking them through the circuit diagram, kindly provided with each and every machine. Never mess with an Instrument Fitter ...

A friend of my mother's had the burnt clothes issue 20 years earlier. Naturally, we think the episodes are related ...

Re heater.

Hey nick,
Yeah it does have a heater it does work still but I’ve never used it actively.
Was there a fix for the possible issue ?
I’d like to get hold of a wiring diagram but I doubt I’d find one.
Finding transmission bits is proving hard.
Cheers

Wiring Diagram

Hi Mitch,

I thought the wiring diagram was attached to the inside of the back panel.

I can't remember the exact nature of the fault. It was something to do with the thermostat or some backup thermostat failing in such a way that power continued to be applied to the heater throughout the cycle, instead of only when the timer was in the "heat" section of the cycle.

It was a very esoteric fault, however when it happened to us and my partner pointed out how it had happened to Hoover, we got a replacement tub in no time flat.

We suspected it was the same thing that happened a family friend some 15 years earlier.

Hi nick will have to have a look at the back panel and see if the diagrams there !
I mainly bought it for its “extras” and it’s suds return function in good condition and not disconnected.
