Hoover A3474 (all white)

Hello everyone

If you have read my last thread then you will know im now the owner of a nice Hoover A3474 Its been well looked after and cared for over the years and is currently "after putting in a new heater element" working well. Id like to stock up on parts for the machine as it is in my kitchen as my main washer (there are only 2 of us) my question is when looking for parts can I use parts that are for the A3350 ?

Also i don't suppose anyone has the hoover electron stick on graphics for the soap draw and bit by the program knob only the word Electron is wearing off on the soap draw and the word Program in red by the program knob.

Hi Eddy.

As with many a UK washer and dryer manufacturer (when we had some!), unless there is a big bang change in style or technology, then all they do is tinker around the edges. Likewise with Hoover.

So long as you stick with Hoover 1100rpm dial controlled washing machines (not washer dryers), most of the components will be interchangeable.
The only areas where there were real changes made tended to be in the manufacturer of the programmer, but even here you should be OK and your machines programmer will be easily identifiable with the lid off, as the timer type is printed on the top of the timer block.

Certainly your machine is mechanically and electrically identical to models A3470, A3472 and A3350 and is more than likely to be identical, barring fascia differences, to models A3260, A3190, A3110 and even A3060 (this last model was the first Hoover 1100rpm machine and was based on an earlier bodyshell!).

All the models I have listed were from the core ranges (I have omitted exclusive models) and date from 1986 back to 1978. Aim for parts suitable for the first three listed initially, then aim for the remaining models in the order listed above, if things get desperate.

ps unfortunately the likelihood of finding new badge strips for your machine is slight, especially those for the A3474 against a white background. If I stumble across any, I will let you know.

Further to the question in your previous thread regarding the 001 and 501 in the commission number I've had a look in my 1986 Hoover service product data and this quotes
"TIMERS
The timers fitted to all machines except A3332 were changed to become /T types which denoted their ability to be automatically tested during assembly. The sector code of the machine was changed from a 0 or 1 prefix to a 5 or 6 at this time and the new 'test' timers have D shafts requiring a special puller which is available from Perivale"

I'm wondering if this is the explanation for the code, the timer variant list also seems to back this up. Not sure what you think?

Thanks for your help and all the info it's all very interesting, I did note down the year and month of my machine and its 1986 September, my next question is how much did the A3474 cost back then?

Bearing queston

Hello again

I have just been reading the service manual for the A3350 among others and it shows in the manual both taper bearings and roller bearings with a (1100) on the roller bearings am i right to assume the correct bearing for my machine would be roller bearings as it has a max spin of 1100?

Staying on the subject of bearings, wheres the best place to get a tub gasket? or is there something else you can use as an adequate seal?

There is a tiny bit of play in the drum which im not sure is enough to warrant a change yet but id like to get the bits in just in case! any help or advice is much appreciated!
