Evening all,

As I have finished college it was about time I got around to a few jobs that have been on the back burner. I was talking to Mathew about my D6042 and he very kindly sent me a fan bearing kit, front bearing pads and the two belts. Thank you Mathew!

This is the first time I have completely stripped a Hoover dryer down and it is a worthwhile job. I took a few pictures just for reference, There is already a comprehensive guide on this forum that covers the Matchbox dryers and there is hardly any difference between this particular model and the Matchbox models.

The job was well worth the effort and it just purrs now whereas it was grumbly before. I'm well chuffed to be able to use it thanks to Mathew. Now where can I get myself an A3060 or A3062 hehe!

Hello James

Another excellent job on an excellent dryer, they really do just purr when they are running.
I am pleased you have got this one up to spec

Well as you now know machines do come up from time to time :-)

The Motors in these are also used in the twin tubs (I might talking crap though), but as usual with things made back then over engineering was the order of the day.

Well done James

Another excellent restoration, a pleasure to be able to help you out with those few parts.

One thing I notice, the dryer fan is steel where as all the dryer fans I've worked on have been black plastic, the "hoover" black plastic used for the hoovermatic pumps, junior and senior cleaner motors. So interesting to note this substitution.

The motors are used for the pulsators in the twin and single tub, the differences are in the mountings and shaft, the dryer and single tub with power wringer has a shaft that extends both ends of the motor for the pulsator/wringer and fan and drum belt in the dryer as above. I don't have the power ratings to hand, but they are in the 350w region, possibly lower for the dryers, 1440rpm shaded pole type motor.

The motor fan is cast aluminium and probably it's all down to what was cheapest at the time, same as to why the blower fan is sheet metal here and plastic in other models.

So well done again James

Enjoy drying your wash

Mathew

And possibly the motor fan was provided by the motor builder.-It was a part of the motor when the motor was received from the motor company to put in the machine. The cast fan sort of reminds me of--Hoover cast vacuum cleaner fans!

Hi all,

Thanks for the kind words. The motor is indeed the exact same as those fitted to single tubs and twin tubs. As far as I am aware the motors were built in-house by Hoover and they are rated at 350 watts as seen on the ratings place below. I actually replaced the windings in the original motor with one from a likewise rated single tub motor when I first got the machine.

The cast aluminium fan was also fitted to the single tubs and twin tubs but at the opposite end. They made the move to plastic fans and pulleys in the early 1980s.

Funny you mention that Mathew as any of the dryers I have seen on here have the black plastic fans. The steel fan may also cause more noise as it could resonate.

Hopefully, someday I will be able to take a picture like that Gary!

James
