That be an A3182!

Lovely machine, if a little rough round the lid department.

Looks like the original lid has been replaced by the lower version, to either fit under a lower worksurface or to give the integrated look.

This machine was the budget machine from the first generaion of electrons. This was the cheapest machine, whilst Gary's A3190 1100 was the top of the range.

Too far for me I am afraid.

As far as i remember the A3190 electron 1100 only had an 800 partner in its range
 
was accompanied in the line up by....

the A3188 800 Dual Spin E - another lovely machine, which followed the A3110 styling with smart coloured metal half panels...

the leccy board exclusive A3172 Electronic 1100 de Luxe E, one of which is owned by Mathew and is a future restoration project.

Looks lovely with the band of green running along the facia...

All went together to produce a great model lineup for Hoover circa 1982ish.

Just been and looked at the piccies i took of your A3190 Gary, when we visited - it really is a fantastic machine.

E machines

Fanx Paul :-).........speaking of "E" machines i took the dryer de luxe "E" to work today and stripped it, it was the only way i could bring the AEG back and store it on the patio by getting rid of the Hoover
 
Dual Spin

The machine has a half (600) and full (800) spin buttons.

The other machines in the lineup apart from the 600 had that too.

They just put that name on the 800 spin model as a marketing ploy I'd imagine.

My parents first washing machine was a round door electron. I think or was the 800 rpm model. Don't remember much about it except for the boil washes if done for nappies! My folks had a Hoover tumble dryer too. It had a square door. The washing machine broke down in 1989 and the dryer was sold later in the year to make space for a dishwasher.

My first childminder had the A3184 800 until it died and was replaced by a SoftWave. I remember it was the only round door Hoover I had seen at that point (this is about 1993/4 or so).

noticed the facia in the back of your car. We cant save evrything - at least it has surrendered useful parts to other projects.

Like what Matt said, I think 'Dual Spin' was simply the advertising moniker for these machines.
The tag was also used for the A3256, from the follow on machines, but was dropped from the third series of electrons.

It generally meant a two spin speed machine.

Talking of round doors....

looked what was lifted into my car this evening!

Its a A3254 Electron 800, the machine which is from the second series of electrons, and one up from the A3182/A3252 600rpm machines.

Cant test, as its had its cable cut off, so wont know whether ive bought a complete dud for a while yet.

Front should clean up well, but underneath will need some work on the left hand side of the machine. I think it has been leaking from the powder drawer area, as the left hand side of the chassis and left suspension leg are rusty, whilst the right hand side is clean.

Uncanny eh that this thread starts, then one comes along.

Will update on the machine at the weekend.

Same shop from where that Servis came from, as well as the 9520 Hotpoint.

He is saving me a scrap A3350 for spares reclamation too. A really great guy who, for once in 'the trade', offers genuine help with advancing the hobby. He rang me up at work, this dinnertime, to say that the A3254 had come in. Suffice to say i was somewhat distracted the rest of the day.

Car shots are great, although the novelty of the machine has now worn off a bit, now i realise that I have to live with this and a Hotpoint Liberator Dryer in my car for the rest of the week, carting dead weight too and from work till friday! I have to go to meetings tomorrow - what will people think eh!

Good Shops

Rare to find as we all know Paul...........yeah i get a bit hacked off with machines in the back namely becuase i have to stack all the other crap i have in my car and it oftens up falling on me as i am driving/breaking

What will people say..............hmmmmm probably think your taking them to a dump........Fools *grin*

Yes and the Hotpoint...........christ things are coming in, almost makes me want to go back to work a day early!!!

p.s I will be braking a lot more carefully than usual. Also driving, whilst having an electron door gaping at me from between the seats, will be a bit freaky!
 
electron 800 model

why did the electron models have powder buttons on them?and i noticed on other models thay have blocks next to the programmes on the panel,what's all that for??

The powder button

Opens the dispenser drawer, it's the same on my Ecologic (tarted up energy control Electron). I don't really know why they bothered, it's perfectly easy to open the dispenser by hand, makes for an nice unusual feature though =).

I think the blocks you are referring to are spaces for buttons on the higher end models that weren't fitted to lower end machines. In the energy control series, the creaseguard button is fitted to higher end models near the programmer.

On my Ecologic the place where the creaseguard button was on the older machines is the power button, as mine dosen't have the pull in push out dial to turn it on (the dial can still be pulled out and pushed in, but it dosen't do anything).

Hi Neil and Matt.

Yep, as Matt states, the powder button is merely to open the powder drawer with. Pushing this button moves a lever behind the powder drawer facai and nudges the drawer out about a centimetre or two.

It looked good, as it removed the need for a handle recess on the drawer, enabling them to produce a clean flat finish across the width of the machine.

The mechanism was notoriously unreliable in my experience and used to stop working as, invariably, it got all gunked up with powder sludge or simply snapped.

As Matt states though, a simple tug under the drawer enables easy access.

The blocks you refer to, next to the programmes, symbolises what sections of the powder drawer to place powder and fabric conditioner.

Programme A = prewash .... powder only goes in the left hand part of the drawer

For programmes H, J and K fabric condiioner should be placed in the middle compartment, whilst powder should go in the right hand compartment.

Should get some better pics of it this weekend and will post some updates on the A3254 soon.
