Just bought this today at a local thrfit store its a Hoover Portable Cleaning system Model S3013. It weights a ton so i would bet it`s form the 70`s has awesome suction and complete with all the tools Any info on it from you hoover collectors ??

Hey Harvestgold:
My Mom has one! Yours appears to be in good shape, and with the cord winder! Probably early 70's. Its a keeper. I usually see them beaten into the earth, with all the attachment clips broken. I'd clean it up and add it to the collection. you can still get bags and filters easily. How is the bearing on the motor? The dust brush looks funky: is it the original?

oops!

I didn't see the lid closed: I'd put it more to the mid seventies. Does it have small wheels in back or two large ones on the side?

Nice find,

That model is vintage 1973-75, after Hoover started with the letter designations in the model numbers.
Looks like it will clean up beautifully!

I show that model in the 73/74 Consumers Distributing catalog but as model 2202 (in Canada) and sellling for $79.40 Cdn. so it was probably selling in the US for a little less, not much though. Love to find one myself.

The catalog descrtiption reads;
Hoover Portable Canister Vacuum Cleaner
Carries like lighweight luggage - all attachments store inside. automatic cord reel; full bag indicator; triple turbine fan for greater suction; three way filter system for clean air exhaust; Telescopic extension wand; tufflex hose; upholstery nozzle, rug and floor mozzle; dusting broush; crevice tool; 20,000 rpm motor.

More hoover info

The bearing is nice an quit looks like the machine has had little use the brush is discolored i think some soft scrub will clean it up just fine there is 1 small wheel on the front and 2 small roller wheels on the back Was this the only color they had ??

Re: Hat Box Hoover:

I've got a similar Hat Box Hoover Vac, but mine is 2-Tone Green. I'm sorry that I can't remember which Club Member I bought mine from, please refresh my memory. I've not really used it much, but it sure brings back great memories of the past, when they first came available. I've found a Vac Shop here that is going to keep a lookout for a proper Dusting Brush. My Vac had an {after-market Dusting Brush} with it that works, but I'm hoping to locate an exact replacement Part sometime. Maybe someone has one they might be able to part with here? I bought one of them for a dear Handicaped Woman Friend of mine new, but since she Passed-Away some time ago, I never got in contact with any Family members, to even find out if the Vac was still around at all.

Peace and Happy Hoover and other Brand Vac Collectibles, Steve

Hoover Portable Colors

The oldest I've ever seen was dull green, and had a step-on switch in the same place as the newer toggle switch. Hose, cord and attachments were white. Later models were all typical shades of Hoover taupe, but the top covers came in yellow, orange, and lighter taupe, all with taupe hose, cord and attachments. The last model to be produced was a pretty blue, with white cord and hose and attachments. The lighter taupe cover model had large (~4 inch diameter) wheels on the sides, not the two small back wheels. This made the machine easier to pull, but the back end tended to bottom out. Cord winders were common, but some came without.
It's a fun machine!
