Always wanted one of these. Its local enough but i hate the color. Do you guys aprove of these. I want a back up unit so any thing i buy has to be able to clean decent.

i speak from experience when it comes to using a hoover twin tub washer. i had a hoover 0510 which is exactly like the first brown/coppertone hoover that you posted about. just the white one is model 0510 and the brown/coppertone one is model 0512.
for me, the impeller pulsator wheel tangled up my wash loads. and i specifically bought the twin tub for the "unmentionables" (thinking that the hoover washing action would be gentler than our full sized, top-loading, automatic. well, i was wrong cuz the hoover managed to unhook my "unmentionables" and they ended up getting hooked into and caught on each other, and tearing holes in the lace, etc....
so, my opinion for the washing action, i wasn't happy with the results of the washing experience of the hoover twin tub.
BUT....
now the spinner is a different story. yes, it was loud & vibrated the whole cabinet of the hoover twin tub. but BOY could that spinner really extract the water out of the clothes!!! i think that was probably the funnest part of using the hoover twin tub for me, using the spinner. and yeah, i have to admit, the swirling water in the washtub was fun to watch too. but i didn't think it had very good "cleaning" action.
now regarding the blue hoover twin tub that ovrphil posted, that one has the faucet head on the spinner side for rinsing in the spinner. i personally have never used a hoover with the rinsing faucet for rinsing in the spinner. but i have read that the water doesn't reach the clothes at the botto of the spinner when rinsing clothes this way. that when you pull the "rinsed" clothes out of the spinner, the clothes at the top are "cold" to the touch, from the rinse water, but the further down into the spin can you go, to get the clothes out, the clothes were still "warm" to the touch, proving that the rinsing water didn't reach the clothes that were deeper in the spin can.
if you want my opinion, i would say go for a portable automatic. if you are looking for something compact with good washing abilities.
this is just my opinion & i hope i didn't offend any hoover fans/lovers, as this is not my intention. i am just speaking from experience (with the 0510) and from what i remember reading on the aw.org group. i do think the hoover twin tub washers are cute little machines. but i prefer agitator washing action.
i myself am a fan of hoover, i love the vacuum cleaners, and like i said, i love the spinner on the twin tub washers. but for good washing abilities, i would prefer an agitator.

That's what I'm looking for hippiedoll thank you. I don't buy anything i cant use as a daily driver. And i only get one of something (maybe a parts machine too) i cant really call my self a collector everything i get i used a dd.

if what you are wanting is a "twin tub" washer and don't want to get a portable automatic, than i would suggest getting a simplicity or speed queen twin tub. these are twin tub washers that have the agitator in the washtub and they wash like an automatic except for they have the spinner can (making them a "twin tub").
i know if i were to ever get another twin tub, i would want to get a speed queen or simplicity. in fact, there was one posted in the north carolina craigslist not too long ago.
i had contacted the seller/owner and they said that they bought a wringer washer from an estate sale or something like that, and that they were given the twin tub also. but they never used it and don't know if it works. but it was the agitation kind of washer.
the reason i contacted the seller/owner was i wanted to find out if it was a 2-speed (for gentle/delicate washing). and they didn't know. so, i didn't keep contact cuz i figured there was no way that i was going to get a speed queen twin tub from north carolina to arizona!!!
but maybe it would be more do-able for you??? i don't know if the speed queen twin tub worked or not though??? that is something you would have to find out from the seller/owner.
and i don't know how easily parts would be available for a speed queen twin tub either?? so, that would have to be something for you to figure into it as well.

Back up for what?
Have had both, a vintage portable apartment washer (Whirlpool) and a Hoover TT. Sold the WP to make room for something else but kept the Hoover though it sees very little use.
All things considered if one had to choose would take an older WP or Kenmore branded automatic portable over a Hoover TT any day of the week. Doing one small load or maybe two in a Hoover is fine, but more than that you'll need lots of stamina and headache medicine.
Where the Hoover shines over an automatic is you can control every aspect of the washing process and that includes reusing wash and or rinse water. If such things are up your street, then by all means.

Thanks i think i will look for a nicer automatic washer for a back up unit. Its not up my street to watch loads for that long i just dont have enough time. thanks for the info and advice guys.
