Hoover 0512

This is the closest that we get to the old UK versions of this machine. This is the 0512, to the which the "2" is nothing more than the color code. It's a brown 0510, probably 1966-68 and mechanically identical to the 0510 in every way except color. These are sturdy machines, stainless steel tubs, sort of loud, but quieter than the newer machines that followed. That drain dose has a kink, and will probably be rotted as well; I've run across 2 that were like that now including the 0510 I have now.

<li>Remove rear panel (2 Phillips screws)</li>
<li>Place some hot water in both sides of the machine and observe for leaks</li>
<li>Check the drain for cracks at the elbow at the pump the hose is long and runs all the way down to the pump in the bottom of the machine</li>
<li>Turn the pump by hand to see if it's free. If not give it some time with the hot water</li>

The parts are long NLA here in the US, but the pump, which is the main failure point, is the same as the UK models (3-port suction pump) which were produced through the 90's.  The spinner seal/bearing can make some horrid noises after sitting a while from being dry. Hot water sitting in the spinner for a while can fix them and with regular use should not be an issue.

 

I say for $40 take a chance if it's nearby, I think you'd enjoy the little machine, and it makes a great cart otherwise!

Parts Are Still Out There

Maybe somewhat rare in on this side of the pond, but mind you there are stocks/stashes here and there. I should know as one resides in my storage.

Now elsewhere in the world, mainly the UK and other Commonwealth countries, part hunting is likely to be more sucessful. There are more than a few auctions on eBay at any given moment from a dealer in Oz who has spares for Hoover TT's. Also there are part shops all over the UK and EU that have some supplies left, but they do not always list them on eBay.

Hoover sold TTs at least in the UK long after there were discontinued here in the States, and parts continued longer still after production of washers stopped. This is probably why spares can be *eaiser* to find.
