hoovermatic pump belt

hey all have just had to buy a pump belt for my hoovermatic , its an australian made one model t1288, however the the set up the same. my pump spins easy with no trouble do you guys agree that the belts just had its day? frayed and broke or ?

i'm not an expert or very mechanical but, i recently bought a Hoover 0510 (american-made) and i've been getting pretty familiar with how my Hoover works (kinda). i still have A LOT to learn, i know. but one thing i can tell you that happened to me was that when i got my Hoover home, everything seemed to be working n it. but of course, the drain pump leaked water.

after tinkering around and changing parts & taking off the drain pump, cleaning it, putting it back together & back on. the drain pump was leaking soooo much more water!!! so, i rolled the Hoover outside and filled the washtub with water and took the back off the cabinet to see where the water was coming from. well low & behold, the water was just dripping at the drain pump. but after really close inspection, i realized that the water was coming from the washtub drain hose that connects to the drain pump. if i squeezed the washtub hose, the water would squirt out more. i had the hose clamp on properly so, i couldn't understan why it was leaking, there were no cracks or slits in the hose??? i just figured that the washtub hose is hold & worn out. i put a new washtub hose on my Hoover and now, there is only water dripping out the bottom of the drain pump. but waaaay less water is on the floor after changing the washtub's hose. so, i think these parts (hoses & belts) just "wear out" after time & use. so, one must replace them with new ones after years of use. that's what i seem to be finding out, while i'm tinkering around with my lil' Hoover.

My 0611 had the same problem when the hoses were removed after decades of sitting there. They hardened to the point that clamps could no longer make the seal on their own. The rad hoses in cars like to do this too. I took my tube of goop and coated the inside ends of the hose and the connections with it and let it sit for half a day with instaled and the clamps on. It stops the leaks however the only true fix is to replace the hoses.
The driveshaft for the pump shouldn't leak unless there is excessive shaft wear.
If I can recall, the pump on mine is identical to yours.

It might be wise to dismantle it, clean it and regrease the o-rings and shaft.

thanks for the info guys, im familiar with the hoovermatics to use but repair is all new to me pritty cluey but its good to talk to others about it and see what issues they have incountered.

repairing vintage hoover twin tub....

i'm new to owning a hoover twin tub washer. i remember when i was really little, my mom had one back in the earlier 1970's (maybe like 1974 or so?), that she traded her volkswagen for, to my godmother (her oldest sister). but i was too young to know what was happening or how to operate the hoover. all i knew is that it was a washer on one side & a dryer (or so i thought) on the other side.

now that i own my very own hoover twin tub, and it being vintage, i am learning as i go along, how to fix it (replacing hoses & belts on it). and i am NOT mechanical at all!!! i felt very intimidated just taking the back panel off & poking around in the cabinet!!! LOL..... but little by little, i am getting more comfortable & acquainted with my little hoover. with all the hoses & belts i am replacing on "her", she should be as good as new when i'm done with her! i just hope i don't have any problems come up with the wash or spin motors (knock on wood)!!!

i picked up a hoover twin yesterday that was purchased in 1972 , its leaks gallore leaking from the spin tub (hardest part to find now) sigh will post pictures soon
