Hoovermatic T5052

Evening all,

My first twin tub since the demise of my Hoovermatic De Luxe 3314L arrived yesterday. A neat May 1986 Hoovermatic T5052. Cleaned it up and washed in it today for a functional test. It passed everything nicely but there are a few minor niggles. The interlock was a bit iffy but I got it to work 75% correctly.
There is a very small leak at the pump but I don't think it's the actual pump itself, I think the ends of the pipes are slightly perished but that will be sorted on Wednesday or Thursday.

I'm very happy with it and I'll be holding on to this one.

Very nice James. I'm sure you will cope without the auto rinse. I love & miss that pulsator wash action & the smell of high foam old style persil & ariel.

TBH I don't really miss auto rinse. I was worried at first about manual rinsing in a Hoovermatic at first since overfilling can strain the motor, but I didn't really have much to be scared about, practise makes perfect as the saying goes and everything workeds out well, I can get away grand with filling the can until the outer tub is a 3rd full. Compared to manually rinsing in the Hotpoint spinner, the Hoovermatic is quicker strangely. I did do some spray rinses though by fooling the interlock so that probably cut time.

I much prefered the older lift up spinner lid, like on the hoovermatic deluxe you had before this & they should of kept the wash tub fill & auto rinse arm as it was on the earlier models.

Rinsing

Hi James,
Glad to see that daisy is working well, I personally like the servis twin tub and rinsing is certainly easier in the servis as the holes in the spin can are at the top instead of the bottom and sides, this means you can very quickly fill the can with water without filling the outer drum , gives the clothes a really good deep rinse.
I remember my mother using her hoovermatic 40 years ago, she just chucked a bucket of water in the spinner, seemed to do the job.

You have there a very nice T5052, which you can be proud of.
A small bit of tinkering and it will look grand and, what with the 3314L surrendering parts, you should be able to nurture your new acquisition foir years to come.

Thanks Paul,

I never actually saw a T5052 before and nothing came up here so I assume I'm one of a small number of owners.

I have to admit the colour scheme is very nice and when I first saw it I thought "yuck!" but the 80's senses kicked in after that moment and I realised it was a very nice scheme after I wiped it down.

The leak will be sorted out by Saturday. The hoses are in good condition so it is probably just a small crack where the hoses clip on. Easily fixed with a patch and super glue.
