Hot Rod Machines extended

now since there is a 50hz foreign conversion for maytag...would there be one for say, a whirlpool/kenmore, or a GE, or even a Speed Queen, these are operated in other countries..so how do they compensate for the lower power? or do they just operate at slower speed....just curious!

You could just use a 50hz motor that spins at the same speeds as the equivalent ("original") 60hz motor.

I have a '65 Frankenmore LK on steroids. So yes, it can be done. It is certainly not grandma's 'Kenmo!
It has an 18lb tub in it and a gold Super Roto-Swirl in it or I can drop in a Roto-Flex and turn it into a Vita-Mix!

Bless 'er heart, you better not wonder off on 'er cause when she spins you might need to keep her from walking all over the room!
She really should be a bolt-down!

I didn't know you had that machine, Steve! I'll bet that's fun machine to use, everything moving just a bit faster is just what WP/KM machines needed for forty years ;-)

GE had conversion parts and info for their machines, just saw it recently in some service/parts books downstairs but I would imagine that if any of the parts are still around, you could buy a new washer and the house to put it in if they were!

'65 Frankenmore LK...18lb tub in it...

Gyrafoam, can you post some photos of your washer with the SUPER Roto-Swirl agitator in it? I'd like to see what the extra tall, roto-swirl look like in their largest capacity tub. What did the pulley increase the agitating and spinning speeds to? Also, did you ever think about placing some material inside the cabinet to absorb the bumping and banging of the tubs as it spins?

Material inside.....

for the belt drive...I used a hot water heater cover, just fasten with duct tape and cut holes for the hoses as needed...kept water hot, absorbed noise, prevented from hitting the cabinet hard.

for direct drive...I use the foam padding you put on a bed...the egg crate type...same thing...cut to fit around tub...fasten with duct tape...really quiets the machine down and holds tub still with out a lot of movement...note:egg crate faces outward, smooth side against the tub...

I thought about using 3 (8" x 4" x 1 1/2") 'rubber sponge' padding glued to the sides and back of the cabinet near the top edge to absorb the shaking and banging of the tub while spinning.

Gyrafoam won't forget, but it may take a few days before I have time to fool with it.

I did not make the conversion. My friend Jason hatched this machine in his workshop, so I will contact him and ask him to put comments in-depth on this thread in regards to the conversion. May prove helpful.

I did step by step pics of converting mine and then fould out the memory card lost them...dammit...wasn't going to do it again...but it took less than ten minutes total....
