Hi all
Just got my 'new' Hotpoint 1012 spin dryer into the house, so I thought I'd put up a few pics for you all to see. This spin-dryer is essentially the spin side of the early 70s Hotpoint Supermatic 1460 twin-tub - I saw one many years ago, and always wanted one - they weren't produced for very long, and don't seem to have been imported to Ireland (from whence I came), so I'm really happy to have got this one.
It's a bit of a dog to be honest - a bit rusty under the skirt, but it should be possible to deal with most of the issues -which are:
Belts
Possibly the clutch (unlike the Ooooovaaah's, Hotpoints had a clutch to minimise strain on the motor)
Drain hose (rotten modern thing on it), and the plastic bush for the cabinet where the pipe emerges (does anyone know parts numbers?)
Mains lead (which has a lethal sticky-tape repair job!)
Possibly the spin-can mounts (its a little off-centre)
All the above should be easy - the parts are the same as every other Hotpoint supermatic, so ebay here we go - would be helpful if anyone could share a parts number listing for the twintubs
More difficult:
Console - as you can see, all the decals have be scrubbed away - it should have timer markings and the marque name. Has anyone any suggestions? Any chance at all that anyone has a decent condition spare out there?
Timer - knackered - it doesn't register at all, so one has to hold it against its spring to get power on the motor. Has anyone every repaired one of these?
Cabinet - tatty, with evidence of a bad respray, so this will need to be done!
Nonetheless, most pleased with this one, which will replace the Hoover spinarinse (a pressie for the wonderful Mathew who has helped me stash the odd top-loader here and there!).
David (big beaming smiles)
