Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Bugger

hi James.

I sympathise with you. They are such a sod to get off. I struggled to get my 3 legged puller to secure onto the tripod but I fixed it on between the drive nut arms and it eventually managed to shift with the blow torch and increasing pressure on the puller. Trouble was I didn't have a nut to protect the top of the drive shaft so was using washers balanced on it and the puller kept falling off. Still perseverance paid off in the end.- I've attached a link to the type I used - is yours the same?

I didn't do anything to the gearbox so would be great to see some pics on how you get on.

Keep up the good work
S :)

Good news at last!

This afternoon my uncle got the angle grinder and took the remains of the tripod off and with loads of heat and persistence the bowl came out. It's beyond saving so I'm just going to use the 9605's bowl, bowl support, tripod and special nut. I need to buy a new cork washer for under the nut and I also found the cause of the water leak - the support tube. It has some corrosion, the two of them do but they should clean up okay and the best example will be used in the overhauled machine. The seals are in good condition much to my surprise so it looks like this will be a low cost restoration.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to remove the support tube and the gearbox to sort it out. May not be long now until I'm in a position to start rebuilding, I'm so happy I've got through the toughest part!

James.
