Hi everyone! Does anyone have any info on the hotpoint 6200, hotpoint's first ever built in washer dryer? It had odd looking dials and dispenser and 1150 spin, a bit rare.

Wasn't Smeg made was it?

I know Smeg had some washer dryers with a push button in the cabinet that you pressed to open the door, as well as odd (i.e. 1150rpm) spin speeds

Jon

Hi everyone

I've PM'd you SuperElectronic.

Lavamat_Jon- It doesn't look like a Smeg, looks too much like an early Electra or Creda, but I could be wrong.

The manual for this machine has the date April 1992.

I know that Hotpoint drafted in numerous manufacturers for their appliances (Bosch made their dishwashers, and I think one integrated machine was made by Whirlpool)

How do people.

Hi Alex.

I held off posting piccies of the 6200, as the ones I have are from your brochure, so the honor should be yours.

One way round not being able to post .pdf files to the forum is to take screen grabs instead (you may know this already - its a bit of a faff!):

Open Microsoft Paint.
Then open your .pdf and scroll to what you want to post.
When you are happy with the way it looks on screen, press the 'Print Screen' key (can be found to the left of scroll lock and to the right of the F12 key).
Then go back to Microsoft Paint, which should have opened a blank white background.
Right click and select 'paste'.
Whatever you screen grabbed will now drop onto the blank page, which can then be saved as a .jpg or .bmp and posted on the forum.

Good luck.

Definately was an slightly unusual looking machine, what with the tri-spoked dials.
As far as I know, this machine was manufactured by Creda. Below is the Creda 47307 and its likeness to the 6200 is very apparrent. This style of machine also formed the basis of the 6200's replacement, in the form of the 6240.

Hi Paul, the 6200's replacement the 6240 seems to have been a Hotpoint/Kinmel Park produced machine rather than Creda judging by the parts listings.

Hope that helps,

Tom.

Hi Paul and Tom

I remember that Creda very well. I also remember the 6240, the later built-in washer dryer, I think released with the WM/WD series. I have posted a pic below, which I found on the net. The 6240 is definately Hotpoint's own creation, as it matched the WM/WD series. It was also remodelled as a BW61, though it was exactly the same.

The 6200 resembled an Electra so I guess it was made by Creda.

The tri-spoked dials Paul!

That's part of the reason why I made the thread. I've never seen these dials before and I'm curious as to what they look like.

The 6200 and 6240 were similar, but the 6240 had a 1200 spin (only 50rpm difference!)and different options really. I think if people of the 6200's time wanted an integral model, they would have gone for the integral Ultimas, which were the 9585/9586/9589 washing machine, dryer and washer dryer variants. I think they were also semi integral, with a customisable door.

Washer Dryer

I think it was TI / Creda / Jackson model produced at Creda Blythe Bridge...

Hi Ultimafan, welcome to the club, what do you collect, cant tell from your blank profile...lots to see and discuss here!!!

Now Paul have you stumbled upon another hidden stash!!...lol, looks an interesting warehouse with the asko on the shelf..

hey Jon, come across any new washers down south??

Thanks for the picture Ultimafan. In fact many of the Creda styled Electra machines and actual Creda brand machines were produced by Hotpoint from 1991 onwards. The telltale sign was always the Hotpoint drum rather than the Creda type.

The production of washer dryers at Blythe Bridge perhaps continued for (slightly) longer than standalone washers.

Tom

That's right

The first batch of Hotpoint made Creda's resembled the 95 or WM series when they were made, with Hotpoint drums.

Hi Mike

A bit about myself...

Haven't got a collection no space, I live with my parents, have a built in Whirlpool washer and compact WK dryer. As the name suggests, I am fan of all Hotpoint Ultimas and Microprofiles (Not any of that latest Merloni wannabe Ultimas :( ). I made a thread on a fabulous TL42 Ultima Sensor dryer which came up on eBay, it seems no one is interested (maybe I can drum up some more interest here URL is below). I also take interest in many other digital appliances, so I also like Hoover New Waves and Zanussi Input/Computawashes (Not the cheap rubbish like Beko or Haier though). Though I am interested in many Hotpoints of this era, which is why I made this thread. This machine looks nice, I can picture one with a white or black control panel.

Oh I forgot, you bought that 9900 didn't you! How's that machine?

Mike and Paul: I remember that Creda on eBay, but it was a bit surprising that it was new, when it must have been at least ten years old. Have we ever seen really old vintage washers crop up on eBay new and boxed?

I forgot one more dead ringer to a Creda

The 6200 has a three compartment dispenser drawer. One for wash, prewash and softener, as did many Credas. All other Hotpoints had two compartments and a small tub in the prewash compartment for the softener.

Hotpoint/Electra/Creda...

We had a Hotpoint made, Creda style Electa washer in the early 90's. Horrible machine. Had gazzillions of repairs in the 3 years we had it, including the whole outer drum being replaced. I remember it had the hottie drum, but the Creda style door and control pannel. Detergent dispenser was on the left, with 2 dials on the right - delay and program dial - and a few square buttons in the middle. It was 1200rpm. Anyway, point is, it was bloody awful lol

Hi everyone!!!

Alex has been a total star and sent me the ENTIRE Hotpoint brochure, so not only have I got the 6200 pic but also a pic of our first Hotpoint 9516. We had it in Almond, and we had the matching fridge. Lasted a good 8 years with numerous brush changes and even a bearing, but then the door went and we just replaced it.

Anyway here is the washer we've all been waiting for...

Hi Darren

The bottom half of the machine looks like the Smeg with the door control and the door itself!

I wonder why Hotpoint went for those three spoked dials rather than the standard dials?

The way the door opens baffles me a bit. I wonder why you have to push in the mains button and then press door release? A bit of a joke for a safety feature, as the door is covered by the furniture door and we also have the old "knife lock" (Hotpoint's trademark) just next to the door release button.

I have to give it that name as we used to use a knife to double lock the door while on.

I'd love to see a drum shot of that!

Yea would surely have been easier to have the standard hotpoint door release lol!

Yea those 3 spoke dials are certainly different!

Your so lucky to have found a pic! Least we dont have to picture it from the instructional manual diagram now! Thanks so much

D

I've never seen a 6200 machine on ebay. In fact I very rarely see any proper 'Creda/Blythe Bridge' washers on ebay. Was there a reason why they were so shortlived? I managed to use a proper 1980s Creda washer up in Scotland about 8 years ago but the bearings were in a bad way. In fact smoke used to appear out of the drum at the end of the cycle! The next year I went up it had been replaced with a new Hotpoint.

Tom.

Hi Tom and Darren

That's OK Darren, another rarity off my list!!!

Tom,

I've never seen a 6200 on eBay either. I think it is up there with Zanussi Inputs, as it was the first true integral machine, it must have cost a fortune. There were integral

Ultimas as well (9586/9386/9986) so people who wanted to splash out on expensive machines probably went for the Ultimas. Will get a pic of the "rival" up later, another truly stunning machine, and I have seen a couple of decor door Ultimas on eBay too.

I wouldn't know about the Creda/Blythe thing I'm afraid. Wasn't there a recall in 1990 about water leaking on wiring, on some models? Perhaps that explains the smoke in that Creda? Or maybe the GE buyout of Creda was earlier than expected?

I wonder what Hotpoint machines we would have if they were still produced be English Electric! I guess they'd look more like the WM71/61 series as we don't know if the WMA series was Merloni's or GE's product

The WMA was a GE product, introduced in 2000. The electronics used in the early WMA machines weren't made by Indesit so they were half reliable (early bearing issues not included).

For a while the WM series was sold alongside the WMA series, although the smaller drum probably meant the WM series' time was nearly up whether Indesit (Merloni) had bought them or not. It would be nice to think the First Editions and Credas would still be based on the WM series. They just needed to improve the programming on them, the so called 'intelligent care' badged machines performed terribly. It was a shame because it gave a bad name to the 30 year old basic design - a design which was never the best, but the most easy and cheap to repair on the market, which is what you need on a budget machine.

Tom.

Notice the style and position of the buttons.
Also the door is of the earlier flat variety and not the slightly protruding Hotpointised one.

I think this model would of had the Creda drum instead of a Hotpoint one.

Crap the scan I did has come out as needing Adobe. hence I cant post it here. il have to do a photograph and see how that turns out

Yep Paul...

That looks definately like the 6200. In fact, it was the dispenser drawer that got me. I also remember an electra washer dryer with the same dispenser as the 6200, so I wouldn't be surprised if it had the original Creda drum. But those tri spoked dials? Who made them?

The 47307 is a much later washer dryer, came out with the 6240, so I think that'll have a Hotpoint drum.

Anything, something unrelated, on these 3 door fridges by Creda, was it the case that one was a fridge, a freezer and wine cooler?

Thats not Paul, its me.

That Creda fridge has a Fridge Freezer and a 0*c compartment for keeping meat and fish in an almost frozen state to preserve the freshness longer.

Zanussi did versions of that concept too.

Rob

There were a few on soap opera's.

Max in Brookside had one along with his grey Zanussi washing machine.

There was one in that soap where Lynda Bellingham played a character called Faith. The programme name escapes me.

Ab Fab may have had one too.

There may have been one in Emmerdale Farm too.
