Hotpoint 95260 Washing Machine

Thought I'd share a little History with you guys.

My 15th Birthday in 1995...

This Hotpoint Washing Machine entertained me since 1985 till 1996, the classic memories I have and the Family tensions just coz of this machine. Blocked pipes, coins stuck in them drum making awful noise's, The motor use to die on us, so Dad would have to fix it often. I think we spent more money on this machine than any other machine we had, by calling out the repair man etc.
Plus my mum rarely did the washing, if she did, there was war lol. In the end she gave up & all the family's washing and was washed by me.

this was the Best Birthday Cake I've ever had!! Nothing will ever be able to beat this!! Through out my childhood I was obsessed with Washing Machines. I wasn't no ordinary boy who liked cars, nope IT WAS WASHING MACHINES!...
Any way my my close Friend Andy & Lesley decided they would make me a cake, because my obsession on washing machines was unique to them and unheard of. This was there best present they could ever give me. From then onwards, Lesley & Andy called me "Hazanussi" as my nick name.

Ah, the Hotpoint 95260...you were a lucky boy growing up then! What a delectable machine. The 9510 we had during the same period was, frankly, a bitter disappointment for a Hotpoint fan like me! Why, just this weekend gone I had a rendez-vous with some fellow site members and I got to see at least three 95620 cycles in full. Lovely stuff! Those machines were slightly repair-prone, I'll admit - brushes most often, of course, follwed by the kind of repairs one expects from the family workhorse!

Can't help but chuckle over the "war" comment if your mother did the washing - it ended up that way in my house once the WM12 arrived...I did virtually the whole lot from mid '96 to '99 or so, at which point I'd left home. God forbid Mum should wash ANY of my things...in fact, I don't think she has since (not without my permission anyway).

Were you a Novon household too? We went through quite a stage of that. Boring at the time though...bloody economy drives!

Mother used Persil

Hey Alex, haha you lucky git three 95620 machines doing full cycles, man that would of been heaven for me.

Yup that's right, these machines were a bit pain in the arse lol, the amount of times we had to nip down the launderette when our Hotpoint broke down, also I did forget to mention the brushes would always go, until you mentioned it...man I remember the machine screeching every time I span...

**blushes** the war business hasn't changed when it comes to the washing lol, it hasn't rubbed off me. I guess it will remain in me till I park it. But that's something for another day. Yes me and my dear mother did have wars and I totally know where your coming from

Novon, nope always had Persil, though I'd always wanted mum to use Ariel. But back in the 80s Persil would always some how be cheaper than Ariel and that was true.

My sister in law & aunty had the almond machines. If I can remember correctly, I'm sure it was my aunty who recommended my mother and sister in law to get these machines

Well you certainly grew up with a great machine, we had the basic 18 (can't remember the number off hand) series machine for 13 years, wnich was still working when we inherited a 9534 1000 plus. Whislt I didn't do the washing I was always around when it was on, and new every click and notch of the timer lol.

Thanks for posting those ads, many I've not seen before. Those new generation adverts really move me with a great nostalgia, why can't it be like that now, such a pride in their products. Also interesting to see the colston 850 ad and the ariston twintub being advertised in the 80's. Well good work finding and posting those, I will no doubt look at them many times very soon.

Advert debate

Hi Mathew, glad you're enjoying "The Laundry Lab" its really cool to hear good results and seems the page has been a bit of a success. Not that I've done it to get praised or for my own benefit. Its just really cool to share something we all enjoy and have something in common with

Yes it is a real shame adverts aren't the same as they were like in the 70s/80s.
My guess is you see rare adverts advertising Hotpoint & Hoover because they are owned by European Companies and the sad thing, most British Companies have now been sold off and what's really left to have pride in? Not only that, as the world population grows, the more mass that needs to be produced which equals poor quality and its like flogging out Mars bars.

The funny thing is, how comes Miele is in the top of there game?? Because they build better machines ok pricey but least you'd get a machine that would last you 20 - 25 years plus Miele had always has a good reputation.

I've posted a link below about Miele being the most successful company (Dated 2007)

While we are on the subject about adverts, "Ariel Active Lift gel" advertising you can get a load of white socks clean in 15 degrees wash!! How misleading is that advert and what annoys me most Ariel wins the "which magazine" awards for best buy.

Of all the years I've done washing, I've never seen Ariel give poor results! Just recently I had a tomato sauce on my white t-shirt, it was washed on 60c and Ariel Active lift Gel "couldn't" even handle that, let alone clean white socks on 15c.

So adverts aren't what they were, I remember adverts use to mean what they say. Buying brands left you knowing it will give good results in the long run. Ok you might of had a few hiccups along the way, that was allowed and you made the odd exception once in a while.

Checking In

Hi there Hass,

Paul posted pics of our 95620 and 93720 above, yes the machines are daily machines - I have just moved into my own house after a couple of years house sharing and couldnt wait to get them back into daily service.

Sadly I need to look at the washer as it packed up on me on sunday. I daresay its something simple like a new door interlock (I hope) god forbid its the timer.
Just glad Paul got some good videos of it beforehand.

and NO the boilwash happening inside it didnt cause it to pack up hahaha dearest friends whom know me so well.

FIngers crossed for the weekend when I can check it out. For now its been swapped for a Creda/Electra machine of the true Creda "Concorde" variety, not my cup of tea but sure fun for someone I figure lol.

Might look at getting out the Hotpoint Liberator and matching dryer for a change!

The 95620 in an exclusive Cheshire location is sick?

Rob, my thoughts are with you in this dark hour! I'm sure it was sickening moment when it ceased to function as normal...I'm perturbed just sitting here well away from the scene! Were there flashing lights and a Police escort to the shed/storage unit when the realisation set in you were without an autowasher in a 3 metre radius? Winter's no time to be consigned to using the Hoovermatic after all...you'd be needing more than that pot of Atrixo for the hands!

I'm sure the somewhat regular use of programme 1 has nothing to do with a breakdown either. All that heat probably makes it run smoother! Well that's what I've found anyway...

Good luck with the Creda. Maybe in future you should keep an heir and a (Liberated) spare in that glory hole for times such as these, this possibly being the reality of living with vintage laundry equipment!
