Hotpoint 9577 Washer Help

hey people, I need ure help once again.
As a few of u know, i collect washers. i was doing a 40C cottons wash a few days ago. just after the start of the wash, the machine went Bang, a Very loud Bang.when the machine did this i saw a sort of (spark, blue light, instnt smell of burning) from the consol panel. i turned the machine off strate away and drain the water. it has been like that for a few days now. i have not tested it as i dont really no much about electrics. i really dont want to have to get rid of this machine, can it be saved. i opened the machine up the next day and noticed a burn mark on the consol panal just were the mains light sits, the mains light is all burnt.

Hmmm, hopefully a case of not as bad as it looks. Maybe an new timer needed there?! I'm not the best with electrics i have to say. Even if you can't repair it yourself you could get hotpoint or another repairman to get it sorted.

I'd love to see a full view pic of the machine if you have one!!

I would suggest that its a neon indicator light fault, its nothing as serious as the timer.

Perhaps the neon got damp or wet from water dripping on the above surface which is possible but not fully as its only a few watts and this blowing would not of caused a great deal of burning to the plastic well I dont think anyway.

I think that its a possible effect from a power surge and you were just unlucky that the machine caught the brunt perhaps. In the past week in Crewe several power surges have written off my computer monitor, 2 fridge freezers and blew the lighting circuit.

Just to check it is not the Timer (i doubt it due to the burn marks on the plastic) look behind the metal plate that holds the fascia on and see if there are any scorch marks on that, if there are any on the timer side then it could be, however the fact the marks are on the plastic and in areas that would of been shielded by the metal Its not likely.

I suggest you plug the machine in with a circuit breaker and try to run a rinse cycle and see how it does.

My guess is the machine will just work as normal minus the neon light.
This is easily replaced - I think I have one somewhere I can send to you if I find it.
