No i never did use that programme, the fact that manufacturers put such programmes on machines tells me that they are well aware of the problems of rinsing in low levels of water, such a stupid directive by the EEC.........ah well, if only i could have one of my old machines in the house things would be much better

yes, manufacturers are actually aware ... but they're also aware the average consumer first spots the AAA++++++ class thing and doesn't care about rinse issues until the first rashes

My biggest concern about the Aqualtis is about those wires : from the control panel they are routed through the door hinges .... open, close,open, close, bend, bend, bend .... and copper will break at a point

I liked the advert for the washer i though it one of the best made.
But of course the irony being that modern machines dont wash in any thing like that amount of water except the old style and excellent top loaders.......

Oh yes comnsumers are easily led beings, energy ratings, spin speeds, motor wattage are all they fed with now days.....sod the qaulity and as you say the rashes that come later

I am glad i have my old machines ;-)

Hi Gary,

Congratulations on your new find. I had a Aqualtis once, until I drove into the door with my car, lol. It was a good machine, very quiet on wash & spin.

As for Bosch, well, I have a Bosch Maxx 5, and on the Cotton cycle it has low water level and only does 2 rinses. You can press water plus and it gives it 3 rinses. Not only that, if you buy a Bosch from Comet, then Comet Engineers come out and repair the machine. Bosch told me they have a service aggrement with Comet. Comet buys machines from Bosch at a cheaper rate in return Comet Engineers do all repairs on Bosch. When my Bosch Maxx 5 broke down I had to wait 2 weeks for a repair, thank god I involved Which Legal Team. Comet told me it is quite normal to have to wait 2 weeks for a repair.

What a great find Gary. Same thing happened to me in 2006 I got a Hoptoint aquarius 2 year old machine given to me for nothing and was told the bearings had gone as it would not spin etc, got stuck in to do a bearing change and all it was, was a bra wire had stuck between the drum paddle and the elmement, took all of 30 seconds to fix and machine is still going now with no faults. Not in my house tho lol. Me aunt has it and she loves the machine.

What kg is the washer Gary is it 9kg or 10kg

Bra's Are The Nemesis of Modern Machines

Yah see modern machines just havent got the build qaulity to take knocks etc from a few bra's

Anyway this one is 7.5kg......

So far it is ok, washes ok, rinses ok, spin balance can take for ever, very quiet motor, noisy pump and water inlets, how manufacturers can claim there machines are quiet i dont know as they all seem to use the same cheap pumps in them, apart from a few top range manufacturers.

Any way the other half likes it so thats ok as well.

We have a 8kg 1600 RPM Aqualtis which is now coming up on 3 years old without any issues at all. It still looks like new and gets heavy use.

All-in-all they're an excellent machine.

The build quality's not Miele by any means, but they seem to be very well designed and thought-out.

The most impressive thing about these machines is that they are virtually silent when washing.

The fill, as mentioned above, is a little noisy i.e. you hear a hiss as the machine fills, rather than a flush as you hear on some other types of drawer.

The drain pump's also just a little noisy, but I would wonder sometimes is this just because the machine is so quiet that you REALLY notice the drain pump kicking in.

It uses a very adequate amount of water and produces excellent wash results.

For an Ariston-Hotpoint / Hotpoint they're a pretty impressive machine!

Oh yeah, one other thing :

The text-based control panel i.e. with menus has to be one of the best designs I've ever seen on a washing machine. It's extremely intuitive and easy to use and there's a great selection of cycles which are very much geared-up towards real day-to-day needs.

Great Cottons cycles. Very handy bed / bath (Towels/sheets) cycle etc.
The wool wash cycle is also one of the best I've seen. The machine does the whole wash using a distribution spin speed where the clothes are stuck to the side of the drum rather than tumbled through the water. It produces excellent results.

Compared to high-end Bosch machines, the cycles and intuitive setup on this machine is just outstanding.

I have also had to use a Bosch Logixx 8kg and YEIKS it's got some of the worst controls I've seen in a long time.

e.g. it ALWAYS defaults to 60C and 1200 rpm for cottons when I'd prefer 40C and 1600rpm. I've accidentally over-heated quite a few items !

Also, nothing seems to require less than about 20 button presses to setup and if you brush against the machine you can cancel the wash / change the spin speed etc accidentally as they're over-senstive touch buttons.

Hotpoint-Ariston's reputation for quality may be a bit tarnished, but I think the Aqualitis is just a fantastic design overall and they most definitely seem to be working from a user's perspective rather than just presenting.

Yup deffo right about machines not being able to handle anything minor without shutting down.. I thought your hotpoint was at least a 9kg as the drum looks bigger than mine and mines a 9kg but i know what you mean about the noisy pumps and inlets, mine has direct drive (swan-rebadged daewoo) and its really quiet till the pump kicks in and it sounds like its gonna break and mine is a little fussy before spin kicks in can take a good few mins to distribute proppa.

Machine looks like new, i know they can suffer rust by the soap dispensor. btw the hoover economy soap drawer reminds me of the plastic cutlery tray you put in the kitchen drawer lol still, as long as it does the job

Aqualtis

Hi guys,
I recently bought my second aqualtis, it being their top of the range one with touch sensitive controls and a steam function (see separate thread)

The machine itself really was excellent - held 9kg, 1600 rpm speed, reasonable wash times, washed a king size duvet in it, very very quiet - even the pump had been upgraded from my last one as that too was pretty quiet.

I have however, had to make it redundant; the machine was placed on a wooden floor, and it vibrated too much, making the WHOLE flat vibrate, and annoying the people downstairs. It has also caused my flooring in the kitchen to vibrate appart, again picture attached.

I had hotpoint out, who said "yes, it it vibrating but we cant do anything about it -its your floor". The engineer was pretty honest when he said 9KG spinning @ 1600 RPM produces so much force that the floor really needs to be concrete....

This was not good enough, so I wrote to Argos who i bought the machine from and they have replaced the machine, with ANY machine I wanted AND fixed the kitchen floor.

So, I chose a Bosch Excell Intergrated machine. And do you know what? its pretty amazing to be fair; it too is pretty quiet, BUT even if the machine rocks when spinning the floor or the house doesnt. It is a shame its hidden behind a cupboard door, but at least I have a machine that will wash and not ruin my kitchen.

Programme times are great, and spin results are fab - the water fillsfrom a spout above the door - its fun to watch when it spins during the rinses as the water comes on to fill whilst the drum is slowing down; bit like old hoovers/hotpoints.

I use Wash Plus and Aqua Plus on all cycles; water levels half way up the door for rinses and quarter up door during washing.

The Which magazine also voted it their best buy, just slightly under the Miele built in one (trust me if Argos did Miele I would have one!!)

The Aqualtis is at the top of my stairs as Hotpoint have to collect it. its been 3 weeks now and they havent been in touch.......I wont be contacting them!

Pic below shows the huge gaps in my floor caused by the washing machine - the laminate has literally been vibrated appart!!!

Wooden floors are always a problem

Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about wooden floors.
My parents had a 1990s Miele 1550 spin machine which was on a wooden floor and it shook itself to bits after about 6 years. The novotronic controls fell out as the bracket snapped due to bouncing. Miele would not honour the parts guarantee and said it was installed. There are very specific instructions in the manual about installing on wooden floors. You have to screw plywood into the joists!

They ended up buying a new machine and moving their laundry room to the garage!

The machine also damaged the cabinets and shelving and wall near it due to years of vibration

Wooden Floor

My parents have a wooden floor in their kitchen. When their washer was on spin, the machine would shake like mad.

My Dad got someone to cut of the floor boards where the washer was sat, and poured concrete into the space.

Now, the machine works great and no vibration.
