Following on from my earlier thread, I acquired a 9513 instead of the 9528 Aquarius model that I had originally planned on buying. I've been gradually restoring the machine as best I can, buying parts as I discover the need for them and/or as funds permit. So far I've completely stripped down the washer and steam cleaned the inside to remove years of crud and rust splatters from a previous bearing failure; cleaned the tub; disassembled and cleaned the motor and checked the brushes; checked the bearings; replaced the drum seal and the tub seal; replaced the door trim, handle and release button; fitted new side trims on the lid and the front; dropped/damaged the fascia (won't make that mistake again!) and subsequently devised a method to repair it with a little help from Google; reinforced fascia with PVA applied to rear; reinforced the chassis with epoxy resin where the dampers mount as there was severe cracking/splitting of the metal, also replaced the dampers; freed up seized self-adjust wheels and greased pivot points; finally, I resprayed the cabinet into almond as I much prefer it to white with the brown trim. She's nearly done now, apart from a little paint touching up here and there where I had to sand out some dust marks. Everything else is good for the now; the motor is super smooth running, no leaks and everything works :).

Jae.

WOWZERS!!

You did alot of work to that hotpoint. It's looks amazing! And yeah, it DEFINITELY looks better painted the almond color!

You did an amazing job there HotandPointy/jaedon!!
:o)

Fantastic work there Jae on a superb machine. Almost looks like it just come off the production line.as you will see from many a thread on here, those pesky Hotpoint fascias and plastic trims are really brittle and flimsy across the range. Looks like you've managed a good rescue and I've not seen that technique with the pva before so might have to give it ago.

I have a later 9544 which has the same problem with the split chassis where the dampers attach - the old dampers were shot and it had a problem with the motor which meant it went into distribute a bit too hard and that must have cracked with the extra stress. It must be a bit of a weak spot on their design.

Well done on a great restoration
S :)

Thanks for your kind words; it's been a real labour of love :). I do plan to have this machine for a long, long time so I will be filling up a box with various spare parts to keep her running for the foreseeable. I'm on the look out for a replacement fascia as I'm not really happy with the current ones condition, although I think I may be waiting a while xD. The PVA does have a drawback in that it seems to soften when the washer is on a hot cycle. I think if I ever do it again, I'll use the epoxy instead which is far tougher.
With regards to the chassis where the dampers attach; do you find that your 9544 creaks and squeaks if the load isn't perfectly balanced? That was what alerted me to there being something not quite right; that when it was in spin there'd be metallic creaking coming from within.
I just managed to make a short video of the final rinse and spin, and upload it to YouTube. Unfortunately, my almost brand new kitchen floor decided to disintegrate directly under the right front support of the washer, so I can't do any more washing until that's been sorted :/. Such fun :P.

9513

Congratulations Jae, what a classic machine to own and even better a New Generation style 9513. Would be after one of these myself.

Chris, the 9513 is indeed a Curry's Exclusive model, from April 1988 and was the replacement for the 9511.

Brandon.

Thanks again guys :). I've just finished buffing the paintwork with cutting compound and Autoglym Super Resin Polish and she looks practically sparkling now! Also my floor has been repaired so I can relocate her under the counter again. I managed to buy a fascia for a 2 button 95130 which I'm going to keep as a spare just in case. It would mean removing 2 of the buttons which is no big deal, as the only one I really ever use is 'Half Load', but then it wouldn't really look like it's supposed to any more :/. I may try to find somewhere that will modify it to accommodate all 4 buttons, and also strip it back then silk screen print the original colour scheme and lettering. No doubt it'll cost me an arm and a leg, so I'll have to defer it until after Christmas for sure.
Brandon; if I ever decide to move it on, you have first dibs :P.

Last couple of pics...

95s!

Hey Jae!

Very nice example of a 9513 there! I love 95/93 range machines, theyre brill! I got a Hotpoint 9530A and 9510A a little while ago, a 9327A in at work and then a 9320W in at work on Monday. Like yourself, I prefer the Almond scheme, so my intention is to make the white 9320 Almond using the 9310 panels and lid, to match my 9530. Although they match as they are, the 9310 is stupidly basic...uni directional and no heat choice, but once the 9320 is reconditioned I'll have a 3rd properly matching set!

Only pic I can find atm....

Chris

Hotpoint

Congratulations Jae on a stunning restoration, it really is great to see you younger generation enjoying the "New Generation" by Hotpoint UK.
I like your detailed approach to the fascia, those things are so brittle, interesting use of the glue, never thought of that.

I do like the Almond models, when they where launched in the early 80`s the shops where supplied with stands by Sschreiber kitchens to display them all on. Have had one of the Rumbelows specials years ago which is similar to yours.

Keep up the great work.

Hi Jae,

The machine looks fab! It's clear that you have put your heart and soul into it and I hope that it gives you many years good service. With the network you have discovered here you can be sure that when something does go wrong with it, that you can get plenty of advice and have normal service resumed fairly quickly.

James
