aaaand back to the 95450

I really cant wait to get the cleaning rags and paint out!

Growing up with the 95450 at my god mothers and the 95452 at my parents, for just shy of 20 years, the 4 button jobbies really are machines close to my heart.

Below is a scan of the manual cover from my mums machine, which i rescued from the paper recycling back in 2005. If you gander carefully you might just make out that 95452 is circled. Shame I couldnt get the machine too! 2 years too early for that i am afraid.

Hearing your 95 last Saturday Richard, really did bring memories flooding back.

Just out of interest.....

This was the dryer that was stacked on my godmothers 95450 (the 93580).

Can anyone see the cheeky trick thats been pulled? Hoover used to pull it too....

Hiya Mike

Certainly would have solved the static electricity build up issues, with that style of drum! lol

Them and Hoover - such cheats! To think people wouldnt notice - Hoover were really bad with it in their logic advertising.

Still - a bit entertaining, 25 years on.

Hi Guys thanks for all the comments, I'm more of a Bosch, Zanussi and top loader sort of Guy but I'm really falling for the Hoover electron's and I'm loving this Hotpoint. Like alot of us, I grew up with these machines and sort of took them for granted, handn't seen one for along time and like Paul said as soon as I heared it running memories came flooding back the spin drain is great.

Rob, I've put in new black brushes like you said and the motor sonds much better no more crackle also managed to get a sump hose as well but haven't fitted it yet. Thought I'd save that for when you come down next and whilst the touch up paints drying we could get the bowling balls out and see if we can get a few strikes in lol.

Mike, your right about those OOva, sorry OOVAH eng and their stickers, that will have to come off.

Cheers Rich

Stickers,

Well just as another hint and tip from the walking and talking Daily Mail encyclopedia of household management.

Smear some full fat mayonnaise over that sticker and leave it to soften. Use plastic spatula to lightly scrape it away with no effort. works a treat everytime with no tempting as it may seem gouging from finger nails and other sharp implements.

Glad its ok though. The sump hose is a 5 minute job if you really feel up to it LOL pair of pliers and a few swear words usually help.

One of those jobs that id certainly have a scissor lift platform for in my dream workshop. :P

Rob, thanks for the advice, I've had a little go with WD40 and my finger nails but shall stop that and try mayo. Don't have any full fat at the mo as trying to loss some weight and failling dismaly only have light which taste no way as nice so shall trot to sainsbury's tomorrow.

Memories.....

Wow, thats the exact machine my parents had when i was born and that started off this whole nutty love oif washing machines that i still have today. It looks lovely. I saw it on eBay too, sadly too far for me. 99p was an absolute steal!

Ours was a funny bit of kit really, not particularly reliable - we had a couple of occasions where it failed to stop filling, numerous sets of brushes & door seals and a couple of floods when it ate underwear and left them in the gravity trap - apparantly when this became blocked the machine simply drained onto the floor instead - not quite sure if this was meant to happen, but it did on ours!

However, it did last a pretty long time, 12 years. Not bad when considering it was on at least twice a day and did countless boil washes of my terry towling nappies!

Sadly an intermittent leak & the suspension leg detatching from its mountings spelt the end of it in our household, though it was used as a donor machine to a friends Hotpoint and was actually still working when it was taken away.

Never owned a Hotpoint since. Less than bargain prices followed by a marked drop in quality, largely thanks to Merloni, have seen to that, but fond memories live on :)
