After 7 years and mountains of washing,i think my mums first edition might be on it's last legs,the dancing skills could give Alesha Dixon a run for her money when it's on the spin cycles,So when the old gal finally decides to pop her springs,which machine should be a good buy for the replacement? i've got an LG but i don't know whether to recommend it because some of the wash cycles aren't that good,especially the woollens wash,the gel was still in the cap at the end of the cycle

So if anyone wants to suggest a good machine,at a reasonable price then i'd be grateful,cos let's face it.they don't make em like they used to!!!

IMO, Miele are probably the best on the current market. But they're very expensive. If you're looking for something a little more reasonably priced, how about the TOL Zanussi Jetsystem? I've heard nothing but positive things about these.

I've also been very impressed with the mid-range Beko washers that have a great variety of cycles and are very well made for the money.

It's true that Beko are gaining a bit of a bit of a following for their machines. The parent company, Arcelik, is also running another of their brands, Blomberg. They're selling through Euronics and come with a full 3 year parts and labour guarantee - not to be sniffed at!

 

In fact, any manufacturer offering more than the basic 1 year's parts and labour guarantee is probably worth a look. Don't confuse this with 5 years' parts and 1 year's labour guarantee - it's always the labour that costs more. Think of it this way: they're not going to offer longer than average guarantees if the machines are liable to go wrong in that period!

 

Off the top of my head you can get 2 years' P&L from Bosch; 5 years' P&L from John Lewis own brand and some AEG and Siemens machines.

I'm a fan of Beko because of their tie-up with Blomberg - Blombergs are great machines having had one when I lived in the UK.

 

On the other hand, if you are a fan of Zanussi, then getting a John  Lewis badged version with a 5yrs P&L guarantee is a pretty sound thing to do....

I'd echo the above comments, recommending Beko, Zanussi & Miele based machines, including Blomberg & John Lewis/AEG. The only manufacturer i'd add to the list is Gorenje, who are sold through smaller independant stores like Euronics centres. They have between 2 & 5 year parts & labour warranties. The only correction i would add is that John Lewis offer 3 year parts & labour warranty rather than the 5 years stated, but it's still a decent deal. Beko - 1 year. Zanussi - 1 year on cheaper machines & 2 year on Jetsystems from some retailers. John Lewis Appliances - 3 years across the range. AEG - between 2 & 5 years depending on machine (minimum 2 years). Gorenje - between 2 & 5 years depending on machine/retailer. Miele - 2, 5 or 10 years depending on model. They're pretty much the only machines i'd look at. Bosch aren't bad but other brands seem to offer more quality and/or warranty at each price-point & LG are decent too but with 2 year warranty you could get another brand like AEG or Miele offering between 2 & 10 years warranty. thanks for the tips,i may suggest a beko or zanussi to her when the hotpoint finally packs in,i'm not sure my mum will get anything as extravagant as a miele due to the price,my auntie has a bosch machine which seems to be a good machine,i really hope she stays away from hotpoint/indesit or hoover/candy machines as i don't seem to be hearing good things about them,and i'm not sure they're as reliable as they used to be since they merged

i'll let you know what my mum decides,if i know her she'll wait til the repairman tells her it's worth it to get a new machine,
he was great with our old hoover new wave and did everything he could to fix it but it was cheaper to buy new,

i think we've done well to get 8 years out of the hotpoint,especially as it was only £199

If you're going to go Zanussi, then buy the John Lewis badged versions with the extra warranty instead of buying a cheaper Zanussi version and paying the extra for a 'top up' warranty....The JL should work out cheaper than a Zanussi + warranty.
