I have a Hotpoint g-157 washing machine no spin/agitate When it should be doing that , the timer just ticks when you stick a screwdriver in the doorswitch it stops when you take it out. After I empty it tomorrow I will get it rocked back to look at motor. Any tricks for emptying a full washer?

Hot point washer G – 157

G – 157 is not a model number, what style washer is it approximately how old etc. if you can't find the number if it's an older GE style machine, the tag is on the left side of the machine down at the very bottom toward the front.

You a variety of waste to empty it. You can start with a big gulp cup in a bucket and just scoop the water out you can also take a hose and siphon the water out, etc. etc.

You might be able to figure out what's wrong with it and get it going and not have to empty it but I wouldn't let the water sit in it too many days, it's particularly bad to let water sit in an older machine for a long period of time.

It's about 35-40 years old belt driven. I'm fixing to start cupping it out. I suspect the motor since no agitate spin or drain which I think the motor does all 3 on this model.

Ok looks like a blue wire has broken off the molex connector. I think I have a molex tool to remove female pin.
This model has the cinderblock under it like GE's are known for. Also looks like i have some transmission leakage. So i definately want to rebuild transmission just not
today. The back was a wood fiberback. Still no model number insight except the g-157 printed on inside lid. Gonna open control panel and see if I can find any service info.

Repaired the wire with the old molex connector just to finish troubleshooting. Washer spins and agitates now. Looks like it just broke right at molex pin. Going to get a new one before I wrap it back up.

But I do want to find a transmission rebuild kit for this washer if anyone can point me in right direction.

Hot point/GE filter flow style washer

Just cut the wire off the back of the green block and connect the two ends together with a small wire nut, then strap the harness to the motor so you don't break any more wires from vibration.

I don't know if there is a rebuild kit for the transmission you can probably tear it all apart and find a lower seal that will work I've never bothered rebuilding a GE transmission. I just replaced them. The upper seal will be the next thing to go anyway

Did you find the model number on the left side of the machine?

Where would you suggest getting a transmission for this model at?

I cut the wires and buttjoined them. Running a load right now.
Got a new belt ordered as machine wasn't spinning everything out but it could be slippage from leaking transmission.

The transmission number for your washer is wh38x38. It has been discontinued for many years and your best chance of finding one would be at an old mom and pop appliance repair shop that might have a new one that’s been sitting for the last 30 years.
 
GE filter, flow washer transmissions

Yes, your best hope is as Melvin suggested is just finding a good one. You might also find a low mileage machine where it's not leaking yet.

Back in the day when these were popular we just always bought remanufactured ones from GE but it's been many years since they were available, I've saved a few good ones for the couple machines we have in the museum, personally I wouldn't bother using a filter, flow washer as a daily driver, unless you're willing to put in the work of keeping it running.

I had a new in the box all metal transmission that we put in a 1966 unit a couple months ago that I had bought from a parts dealer where it just sat forever. That was kind of fun.
