"Leaks", eh? Might be simple like a hose or it might be the tranny boot...
Leaking Hotpoint
I would suspect a bad water pump, top outer tub gasket or rust holes in the bottom of outer tub, this is what we see most often on GE-HP washers of this age.

we had these exact same units...
for about 3 months around 1990 while renting a housewhiles our new house was being built. They did an excellent job...would snag a pair if some came up nearby.
