Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

decided to give this machine

a run today .All went well for the first couple of loads and then blue smoke and that tell tale acrid smell [spinner motor burnt out ] What caused the problem was a yellow duster that was on the floor .It got caught up in the bottom of the spin dryer clutch jamming everything up .before i could switch off the damage was done so now i"m looking for a replacement motor . If anyone has a motor for sale i would be most grateful.so its back in the garage for the time being

I think my friend has one

Sorry for the burned out motor !!!! I think my friend has one ? I will
Check and get back to you . Darren

Thanks darren

I have done so much to this machine only for this to happen .If you can find a motor. I would be most great full
regards
Antony

thanks Ozzie 908

I will bear that in mind .I have a friend who thinks he may have a motor tucked away .just waiting to find out .If he hasn't i will take you up on your offer . many thanks

Hotpoint Supermatics

Morning Anthony

Apologies I seemed to have missed this thread and Welcome to the Supermatic club, great washers and between us with spares you should have no problem having a working machine.

The great thing is they are certainly worth the graft to renovate and the satisfaction of having repaired it yourself. Did you repair many of these in your time as an engineer ?

Cheers, Mike

Hi mike

well after a few mishaps it working well .The wash pump pulley broke in half so knowing i wouldn't be able to get a replacement i made a new one out of an Ikea cabinet leg and after three loads its still working as it should [its probably stronger than the original]. I did work on a lot of these twintubs as well as the Hoover and frigidaire models that were around at the time .It was so easy back then .just replace parts when needed but as you probably know its not so easy these days. I think i prefer the older hotpoint twintubs to this model purely for the build quality same goes for Hoover .Too much plastic for my liking
cheers
Antony

Well

guys . I finished this machine and with its new spin motor and bodged up wash pump its running perfectly .So time moves on and i start a new project [hotpoint Empress] meanwhile the busted pulley from the supermatic wash pump is on the windowsill in the kitchen [or it was ] I had completely forgotten about it till this morning when my partner said to me oh here's that pully you wanted .A new [printed ]pully only this one is much more substantial than the old one .Just thought you would like to see it. I have to say i take back everything i said about too much plastic .We may not be able to get parts for these old machines but at least with these fantastic new inventions we have the option to print new ones [within reason ]

Hotpoint & 3D Printing ...

Morning Anthony and WOW now thats a great job done, I think your printer person will be getting lots of requests, the applications are endless for the hobby we have.

Was the original more of a hard bakelite ? It looks it ? wonder if the new plastic version will be longer lasting etc

Great work , Enjoy the restorations , we all are following your progress !!

Gotta love those Hotpoint Supermatics !!

the original pully was plastic

and if you look carefully you can see where the belt has worn the side of it over time .the new printed one is also plastic but as you can see its much thicker than the old one and its heavier .I also got a new wheel printed for an 80 year old Hoover vac i have .its had a wheel missing for at least 30 years and i never thought i would ever get a replacement

Hotpoint Hoover 3D Printed Parts

Oh now thats great to know Anthony these 3D printed parts are stacking up for working parts , now could it print a working display Jetamatic ?

The cream paint is a perfect match will you laquer over it or is it durable enough ? mind if the original lasted 70+ years then do you need to ha ha .

I bet the neighbour is going to wonder "What The Heck" or be totally overwhelmed that her beloved Hotpoint Empress, possibly her first electric machine is being restored and looked after .

I have often wondered what happened

To the see through Jetamatic [cant bear the thought of it being scrapped] . There cant have been many of them made .There was also a Frigidaire fridge [huge thing it was ] with a cut away compressor that hung on four springs making the fridge virtually silent and a maching dishwasher with a see through door .All three appliances could be bought in any of the six colours that were available. Some nice Hotpoints there and i haven't seen a light N Easy for years
