Hi Guys, thought you might like to see some pics of my 1504. I thought I'd never see one again let alone own one. This washer has always been one of my favorites, I new afew people who had them when I was growing up, and lasted into the late 80's early 90's. I picked it up last Monday, it all works but does have a very slight leak which I need to investigate and fix.

Hi Leon, Thanks very much, I agree with you, I love the timeline as well. Another member has taken some more pics since it had a quick clean up so hopefully he will post them as well. Didn't you have this model in Australia with a matching dryer?

Rich

Australian Version

Hey Rich

Yes, a similar model was sold in Australia and also New Zealand. In Australia it was marketed under the Kelvinator name (at least) and in New Zealand was under the Frigidaire and Fisher & Paykel names, maybe even Kelvinator too.

I have seen a few dryers about but so far the washer has not surfaced. I saw one about 10 years ago but nothing since.

Cheers
Leon

Hi Al, hope your well. it really has been well looked after, even the writting on the lid which usually wears off. If I remember correctly if you pressed the powders switch it would take in cold water instead of hot and cold or hot depending on the programme for the enzymes to work better if the housewife or working Mum used the new Biological powders of the time I think.

Congratulations Richard!..Beautiful machine!

I adore Hotpoint top loaders and love mine. They are fantastic. If you just fill with hot water without heating it's only approx 40 minutes cycle time which is great. Clothes get a "Effective but gentle action" wash and cleaned well plus the fiter tray catches so much lint. Very handy with having a dog and a cat. It's amazing how much pet hair gets on clothes and bedding (although I do try to keep the pets off the bed when I can they have a habbit of sneaking into the bedroom).

It looks in great condition and im sure you will get the small leak sorted.

Great find..Well done and have fun with it!

Hi Mark, I adore top loaders too, I have a couple of 9605's one in perfect condition and working order and the second is ok but keeping for spares, a 1509 which needs some work and a modern Fisher and Paykel which is a great machine. I love the wash action on the Hotpoints and the filter clean trays are great as you said for removing lint. I don't have any pets but I do have a very furry partner and it is amazing how much hair the filter tray gets out lol

Richard I totally agree with you with regards to molting hairs...lol. We are both furry and like you say the filter tray catches loads. Between us being furry and the pets you can imaging what the filter tray traps in it and I want to have a top loader for as long as I can.

Great to here you have a few of them to keep you going. I just have the one and it's our main machine as we only have 2 washers now and the other one is a twinny which I really have to be in the mood to use. Have had a 15790 and a 9605 in the past but the 15790 needed a new main seal and I had no idea how to do it or who to do it or how much it would cost to have someone do it for me. The 9605 was cosmetically immaculate and looked like new but sadly the gear box leaked oil everywhere after we had only had it a few months so it had to go.It was over 4 years ago that I had them and I din't think to take parts off them for spares....We all learn from things we should have done at the time but that's part of life I guess.

Anyway congrats again and thanks for the detailed pictures as ive never seen one in the flesh or any close up pics.

Absolutely LOVE those things. If some strange person happens to snipe one of those away mysteriously from E-Bay-------it's me! I've been trying to sweet-talk the folks at Abel's to ship it for me.

O.k. in my dreams.

Wonderful machine!

Hi Mike

Ive been slowly reducing the collection down and down to what it is (or not) now.

I did sell a few machines to another collector so they are safe and sound. Sold one on eBay. The 3060 has finally been retired and stripped due to timer and bearing failure. I currently have some parts from the 3060 on eBay to hopefully give someone else the chance to improve their 3060 or just to have as spares. The timer went out a while back and I do have a couple of spares somewhere but never got round to changing it over. Just when I was thinking about changing the timer the bearings started to go and I ran it for a while but was getting rust/oil occasionally on the clothes. I have spent quite a bit of money and time on it and it seemed that every time I fixed a problem then another would appear. When the bearings went I decided enough was enough and I retired the old girl.

The purple top loader is now our only automatic. Norfolk Mark rebuilt it a few years ago so hopefully it has many years left in it.The original pump failed at the end of last year(can't complain after 32 years of service) and was leaking so I purchased a recon one from Mark and replaced the leaking one and it's been fine since (touch wood).

I no longer class myself as a collector and will soon be going up into the garage loft to bring down all the spares we have and going through them and putting them on eBay. Have already sold a lot of my literature/user manuals on eBay and have a few bits and pieces left to put on. Would rather give other collectors the chance to own such items and enjoy and use them.

I can't say though for sure that if I spot a vintage machine I will be able to walk past it but im going to do my best to ignore the urge to get it. Have managed to ignore a couple of machines ive seen at a junkyard I go to, so doing well so far.

Hi Mark, Congrats on finding the Hotpoint 1504...!! They are great and have had one for over 5 years now and has given good service ever since. I did have to give it a complete over-haul before i used it, but it had been sitting for about 20years in a larder, and was only used a handful or so times.
Hope you find out where the leak is coming from.
Happy 1504 washing !!
Keith

Hotpoint Toploaders

Hello Richard

Brilliant!........what classic styling.......excellent job getting that one........the toploaders are my favourite Hotpoint machines, having owned and worked on one I can vouch for their peformance and build qaulity......lovely lovely
The "powders" button another gem, just like the "bio" button on some Servis machines (correct me if im wrong Mike), ah what a time that was when "bio" poweders where coming on the market designed for those "Understains" :-) as one manufacturer put it :-)

MARK
ARghhh yah bugger, i thought summit was going on when i saw the parts an things on ebay.........I kind of understand you doing this.........but as you say if another old washer starts woooing you will you be able to resist :-)

I hope you enjoy your washing Richard :-)

Powders

Now Peter, dont mock one of our National Treasures!!!...Lol..nice thought though, daft thing is, we would never have used liquids in this machine when new, all that would have been about would have been powders!!! the switch is for cold fill to take advantage of synthetic based new formula powders like Ariel that have low temp enzymes etc...

Hey Steve, we have an appliance buddy who renovates these machines, completely re=builds & restores them better than Hotpoint made the last ones, might not be out of relms if we can find a reasonable shipper with a bit of spare container space!!! Failing that just book your ticket!!

Simply wonderful...

I've no doubt said it before, but the Hotpoint top loader would be my machine of choice if only my washday fates were a little more favourable! It's the machine that led me here in the first place.

Fingers crossed for the full gamut of pictures and maybe even video footage!

I'm rather curious about the static rinse on the timelime models: after exhaustive studying of the service manuals a few months ago (I actually managed to understand how it agitates - not bad given my very slim understanding of most mechanics) it seems the first rinse consists of wash water drain, fill, pause, drain and spin during which the final part employs a flush/spray period. Is this right in real life? And is it really effective?

Just one other thing for regular users - how generous do you have to be with the detergent? And do they deal well with stains?

I live in hope of doing a few loads in one eventually!

Cheers

Alex

really cute!

kinda reminds me of a mini"filter flo"(i see it says
"filterclean"on the edge of the pan)i'd like to see an
"up the kilt" shot if the mechanism is visable from under:p
