Hotpoint Washer Overflowing?

Hello everyone, so I was recently at a church where we stayed for a project, and this is the washer they had. It is a 1980s Hotpoint it looks to be. Runs fine, just the water level seems strange. The first photo is of it at the ''High'' level. The second picture is of the washer at the 'Low' level. It just doesnt seem right, why would the small level be almost to the top? Is there something wrong with the switch?

Looks like someone may have adjusted the water level on this machine and adjusted it too high.

Too High A Water Level On An Older HP-GE Washer

It was not too unusual for the water levels to creep up on these washers as they age.  If it is consistently too high the WLC should be adjusted or replaced, otherwise you are likely to get small items in outer and pump when it goes into spin.

 

The water inlet valve could also be sticking open, after the washer has been filling on the warm setting for about a minute try shutting off the water by pushing the time knob in. The hot and cold valves should close immediately and at the same time, try turning the fill on and off six or more times, if the hot or cold hesitates shutting off for a few seconds or more the inlet valve is faulty and should be replaced.

Mom's Maytag

was doing that a couple years ago, we were expecting to change the switch...but I took the hose off the switch and blew air down through it, it was obstructed by scum...got it opened back up and it fixed the water level! It's still working properly.
