but I'm thinking this is from the early 70's.

You are correct.  I moved into my first apartment in college Fall, 1974.  A brand new complex down the street built that winter/spring/summer had Hotpoint kitchens with this same dishwasher.  Compared to my late 1960s Hotpoint in my apartment, these were great cleaners.  Had a much longer wsh phase.  Still reversing motor.  And there was a suds kill or drain/debris flush at the end of wash/beginning of rinse that fascinated me too.

Hey thanks guys! So there first tower was the flat red disk shape, then the half arm , then the blue cone one. So after this one, I guess thay went with GEs pop up tower. They keeped the top fill thing going on for a long time, From the looks of it this one still has it. Hotpoint DW sure did change a lot over the years.

Water inlet on the top

I had one of these in an apt too, the water inlet was on the top of the tub, it was a noisy machine, ok cleaning , no filter

it was a noisy machine

Would you believe my mid-to-late 1960s was even noisier?  At least this one in the ad had a somewhat soothing droan while it washed and rinsed.  Draining was noisy.
