Depending on how often you will use it and what you will wash in it will depend how good it is!

If you use it for say a couple of loads a week IE 3-5 loads and aslong its loaded correctly it should give you good results and should be good in reliability!

However only time will tell!!!!!!

If it bears the Hotpoint logo and is made from 2004 onwards, then basically the only place these machines belong is in the garbage . The new Hotpoint machines are basically rebadged Indesits.

I'm afraid John's right. I bought 3 new Hotpoints (washer, dryer and dishwasher) at the start of 2004 and only one is still in the house. To cut a very long story short the dishwasher was replaced twice due to faulty heating elements - and the guy could not fix the washing machine. The problem with the washer was quite funny - it couldn't detect an unbalanced load. In a Hotpoint, made like s*** (Indes***, infact) so as light as a feather, this was interesting to watch. I have some video footage of the initial spin ramp up with a towling dressing gown where you see sparks flying about in the machine as the drum thwacks against the door glass and scratches it to buggery. The machine physically moved across the kitchen as far as the pipes would allow despite being perfectly level on a concrete floor.

In the end I was refunded and bought two new Zanussis - which I'm satisfied with. Both have had no problems, but I find the dishwasher a little annoying to load economically - it's often on two or three times a day.

By the way, if your Hotpoint is a WMA then the bearings will probably go soon.

Sorry Jon - spelled your name wrong

BTW forgot to mention my Hotpoints were top of range, satin uliminium finish - the best Hotpoint had to offer early 2004. Think model was WMA64 (washer).

Used to love good ole Hotpoint washers with the motor at the top - made in Wales I think (North Wales, Hoover was down near Cardiff in Merthyr before it became GIAS / Candy)My nan had a 70s Hotpoint fronloader and the doorglass was purple, all the buttons were purple. It was lovely and lasted 20 years - you just used to change the brushes quite often.

My first washer was a square door Hoover 800 `de luxe' LOL but it was from about 1976. It was not a very reliable washer to be honest but then it was operated mainly by my mum :-/

Nick!-i can vouch from personal experience at how crap the WMA Bearings were. i had a WMA62p for all of a year & its bearings died...of which hotpoint had to replace because it was there fault & we were upgraded to the ultima extra 1600...which i perswaded to move it on in favour of an AEG which sits proudly in the utility....i also had a 1970s hotpoint like you described.which was very good! as far as the hoovers go. i take it it must be different situations for different people..as i have a 1987 hoover logic 1300. of which celebrates its 18th birthday this year & in the whole time i've owned it *touches wood* there has been not a single problem.
