This is my 2nd favorite cake, and quite different from the pound cake.
This one packs a punch, if you like anyway...its another awesome party cake!

Jeff's 86-proof Chocolate cake

5 oz(squares) unsweetened chocolate
2 cups sifted all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup dry instant coffee or expresso
boiling water
cold water
1/2 cup BOOZE(rum, bourbon, scotch, amaretto, cognac...any one works well)
2 sticks soft butter(imperial margerine)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups sugar
3 eggs

OPTIONAL: Extra Booze
OPTIONAL: powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 325. Grease and flour a bundt or other type of fancy tube pan

Melt chocolate in double boiler and set aside to cool

Sift the flour, baking soda, and salt together and set aside

In a 2 cup glass measuring cup dissolve the coffee in a little boiling water. Add cold water to the 1 1/2 cup line, then add the booze. Set aside

Cream the butter with an electric mixer, then add the sugar and vanilla, beating to mix well. Next add the eggs, one at a time and beat to mix well after each addition. Next add the cooled chocolate and mix til smooth.

Now turn the mixer to low speed and alternately add the dry ingredients in three additions with the liquid in two additions. Scrape the bowl often, and mix well after each addition, especially the last. Batter will be very thin.
Pour into prepared pan and bake for 70-75 minutes or until a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean.
cool in pan 15 minutes and then remove to a rack to cool the rest of the way.
At this point, you may sprinkle some more booze on the cake if you like.
Dust the top with powdered sugar before serving.
Serve with a spoonful of whipped cream on top.

Happy Baking!

It hits every

food group on the pyramid:

sugar, fat, salt, dairy, chocolate, coffee, and alcohol.

What more could you ask for out of life?

Well, I suppose if it were 20 years ago, my college friends would not have been quite satisfied. They would have taken a little liberty with that recipe and added some hash (bleh!).

Here kitty kitty, kitty.....I have a treat for you!

sugar, fat, salt, dairy, chocolate, coffee, and alcohol.Yum, all the things to keep on hand when the co-workers are PMS-ing!Or, in an all-male office UMS-ing (Ugly Mood Swings!)

(ducks and runs)

I vote for the Rum...
Use it for the mousie bate!!!!
Makes for one happy mouse, then kitty has less to do

I used to have one of those automatic Littermaid gizmos

Noisy and not worth $80 for Kitty to Crap in..

Nice Kake...

Now for some true rum cake....UMMM

Ha ha

Toggles, you're a kick!

I simply MUST meet you someday.

Now that you mention moody people in the office, some Lexapro would be a good thing to add to that cake if it's going to work. Lexapro resulted in very significant improvement for a couple nut cases in my office who formerly couldn't control themselves and their many moods.

But PeterH has an even better idea: get some laundromats and simply stop working in an office. ha ha!

Oh Steve,

That is NOT my litter box(nor is it my cat's--LOL). It is a cake picture from a recipe site. Pretty gross!

Steve, you are correct. I now have one dog in the divorce. The other two are with the ex.

Also, have my cat.

And yes....

Isn't it funny how a thread can take a turn.

Now let's have some cake.

Pistachio Marble Cake

In a large mixing bowl, combine all the following ingredients:

1 box Yellow Cake mix
4 eggs
1 cup Orange Juice
½ cup Oil
1 box Instant pistachio pudding

Beat all the ingredients 1 min. @ low speed, then 3 min. @ High speed.

Pour 2/3 batter into a well-greased tube pan.

In the leftover batter, add ¾ cup Hershey’s chocolate syrup. Mix well and pour on top of cake batter and swirl with a knife to make a marble affect. Bake @ 350 for 1 hour.
