A window unit gas furnace doesn't seem too surprising but, how about a wood pellet stove?!!

I saw one of these at a Menards a few years ago and I just stared at it in disbelief for a bit.

Here in earthquake country, hanging a gas fired heating appliance out a window seems like a recipe for disaster.

 

But it does make me wonder why there aren't any window air conditioners on the market that can do a reverse cycle and heat (with electric heat pump technology) as well as cool... like the portable units...

 

Or are there?

 

Wait a sec... Google to the rescue... yep, there are plenty... although they tend to be a bit pricey... more expensive even than the portable variety... go figure!
