"Big Pharma" is not the same thing they were years ago. At one time, we had the benefit of a large group of doctors and researchers striving to CURE a disease. Polio, smallpox, etc... were essentially removed from the planet. What we have now is trillion dollar corporations all trying to cash in on the next blockbuster drug, more than one CEO has been quoted as wanting to make a certain disease "treatable" -the term "curable" never enters the equation, they want to sell you a dose every day for the rest of your life. As soon as a drug or device attains success, all that company's competitors direct massive resources to come up with something nearly identical, but different enough to get patented, so they can cash in on the wave. Many of these drugs and devices are known to be harmful, but the manufacturers bank on making fat profits before the problems come to light. There is only lip service to something like a "cure for cancer". While there are researchers working to find cures for various cancers, there is no real effort to do so by the corporations in control. The CEOs, Marketing and Sales reps know they can almost always skip out when the cows come home, taking their fortunes with them. The odds of their being helt to account are miniscule... about the same as your average member of congress.

I've worked for a manufacturer of medical devices for nearly 40 years, I've witnessed a lot of this first hand.
Thank you for that posting, pstehle.
It doesn't surprise me at all, and I've often mentioned the increased amount of Corporate Greed that has taken over those once-reliable corporations.
I've occasionally wondered about why cancer cures have never been successful across the board, with all the technology available today.
I get the feeling that by ever finding a cure, it would affect the revenue stream to Big Pharma, so they continue to play games, to insure that income.

As for the Medical Devices that you mentioned.....
It's funny, but a while back when I was chief service technician at the shop, an employee, I can't remember what area of medicine they were in, brought me a piece of equipment to repair.
I don't remember what it was used for, it had tubing, valves, knobs, and meters.
I was hesitant to even bother with it, since I'm a highly trained tech for home entertainment products.
But the guy begged me to at least take a look at it......

So.... once on my service bench, with the case off of the "thing", it turns out that a wire broke loose leading to a circuit board, and was due to sloppy soldering.
In fact, the whole way it was assembled looks like a tragedy waiting to happen!

re; big pharma, etc. It's money before people. Thankfully not all doctors and providers are this way. I think it's time this nation begins doing things differently then. Maybe more like Europe, etc. I feel the tables may be turning a little since Tuesday for the way things should work around here!

Mike,
I’m glad that you’ve gotten your knee replacements done and are doing your PT to recover. I wish you a speedy and complete recovery!

I agree with you that America would be wise to fashion our health care after European countries. I have been a Kaiser member since 1970. The Kaiser system is similar to the way health care is managed in European counties and it works very well. I’ve had both hips replaced by Kaiser physicians and a hernia repair surgery too. Each of these procedures went without a hitch and I couldn’t have received better care anywhere else. Kaiser provides treatment in an efficient and cost effective manner while at the same time making each patient feel special. Our PCP is like going to Dr. Marcus Welby MD., listening carefully and never rushing through an appointment.

Our niece Marlana’s husband Dan was diagnosed with stage 4 Melanoma over two years ago. They also have Kaiser. Dan was treated at Kaiser in Marin county. The first thing that his Oncologist told him was that this wasn’t a death sentence and they would cure him. And they did! Using the newest treatment available, immune-no therapy which is similar to the MRNA Covid vaccines, radiation and chemo Dan has been completely cured and his scans for the past year show that he is completely cancer free. These are treatments that are the result of the research and development of “Big Pharma”.

Medicine has made great strides in treatment and cures for cancer and many other diseases. All which wouldn’t have been possible without research and development. Our family is so grateful to the wonderful doctors at Kaiser for saving Dan’s life! He’s one helluva a great guy!

I would strongly suggest that SEVERE ACCOUNTABILITY is one of the best tools to insure that those greedy, sloppy, medical businesses and corporations are held liable and investigated thoroughly.
In fact, even product manufactuers should also be included.
People are tired of the crap and lies already.
That's why, after hearing horror stories from all facets of business, health, etc I simply don't trust a lot of things anymore.

I'm living proof that having to shed or ignore buying into things has kept me sane and living a comfortable life.
It seems that the less I expose myself to temptations, the happier I am.

Except for...
Now give me a couple of bags of those seasonally available Hersey's Cherry Cordial kisses - that's one thing I cannot resist!
Or a couple of tubes of Pringles Cheddar Cheese chips. 😄

Another thing that's pissed me off is when they started offering that "LLC" crap.
Delving into it's structure, it, among other things, protects the company from lawsuits and saves a company's ass.
To me, it hints at protecting the company, giving them leeway for their sloppy performance, while saying "screw the customer".
