Yesterday the northeastern part of the US was a major mess, espeically the airports. Planes diverting to a lot of smaller airports all over the place. Most of these were due in at JFK or BOS, but the weather was too bad to land. JFK was down to on runway for takeoffs anad landings, but due to the high winds (74knts!) at JFK a lot of airlines just canceled their flights leaving thousands stranded. The Delta hangar at BOS lost a good portion of its roof.
Did anyone here have any wind damage?

Chainsaws and sump pumps and generators - oh my!

Flying out of the store yesterday and today. Most of us in North Jersey lost power at least for awhile; mine was out from 9p-2:30a. Some places are estimated to have power back as late as Tuesday. Our shopping cart kiosks in the lot were blown all over the place, to move them is a 6-man job. Lots of flooding, highways and roads closed, trees down.

At least it melted the last of our nor'easter snow from a couple weeks ago!

for me one house just a lot of water all over, my basement is above ground, so the water stayed away, my mother in law started having water come into her basement, several homes in the area had the city crews with major pumps and hoses help to clear the water out of their basements, my other house only had some water go under the aluminum roof from the hig winds and leak into the house, no major damage, but you know the ceiling is gonna stain and need repainting, I guess count ourselves lucky, also no power outtages, but we did have some thunder storms this morning.....

Oi Vay! what a mess. The Hurrican with No Name is what they are calling it. Everything is flooded here in Denville, had to go 3 different routes just to get out of town. We don't have that problem up by my house, but we do have the problem of the power went out last night about 7pm and its still out. The house was so cold I couldn't stand it so I found a Red Roof Inn that takes dogs and thats where we are for the night. They are saying at least till Tuesday til the power is restored. Can I just say, enough with this weather!!!

Water, water everywhere........................

Rivers, lakes and streams all flooding, trees down and power outages. Could we please have some SUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't help but think how unneccessary these govt imposed water restrictions are after seeing all this rain, and flooding!!
Mike

by the way.............................

Like Roy Schieder said...."We're gonna need a bigga boat!!!!"

Wow...

You guys in "Joizee" got whacked huh ?

Here on the Cape we had High Winds and Gusts along with the Familiar Beach Errosion. Pretty Good amount of Rain, but not as bad as some places.

Hey John, How did you guys do in Plymouth ?

Most of the rain was to the North and West of DC, thank you for asking. It was a very good weekend to stay inside, read and do laundry. Water rose into some parking lots near the river during high tide. Teddy Roosevelt Island (across from the Center for the Performing Kennedys) and Great Falls National Park are closed until Tuesday due to high water, but so far, no serious flooding damage. Some roads are closed due to flooding.

In spite of all of the snow, we are actually a little below our normal amounts of precipitation for the year, but the ground is very wet and we had a surplus of precipitation last year so it's not serious.

I sure hope that hurricanes don't take this path up the Atlantic coast later this year. We would all be in more than deep water.

Just 6 hours of no power. About 6:30pm Saturday to 12:30am (techincically, Sunday).

No power meant no heat, no hot water no TV, no computer and no reading lamp. (Note to self: Keep old adult magazines).
Heated up some soup n top of my gas stove.

Four "AA" sized batteries later in my radio and with a battery-operated fluorescent lantern I got by. Finally gave up and went to sleep.

10:30 pm was the equivalent of 11:30 pm with the time-change, so I just went to bed!

So sad to hear how many lives were lost when trees came crashing down.

We actually had pea sized hail saturday morning and cloud to ground lighning in 45 degree weather!!??? How crazy is that! A tree in my friends yard was struck and another friend told me that a tree across the street from where she lives got zapped too. Earthquakes, famines, floods on an ever increasing scale, i truly believe we are coming to the end of days.

My sump pump has been running for

2 days now. Thank heavens I just replaced the 18 year old ZOeller with a new Zoeller all cast iron. Those just run and run. But even with that it just is keeping up with streams of water pouring in through my rock foundation. You stand there and hear it gushing into the basement. And now its burbling up through holes under the boiler!
I will have to reparge the walls this summer when we have dry weather too much cement has dissappeared between the 100 year old rocks.
Here in Chatham we had a power pole by the sea snapped in half and power lines down all over last nite. I didn't loose power thankfully.
The ground is soaked!

We have water in our basement and luckily we still have power. Some are not so lucky and what they showed on the news tonight made me glad I wasnt dealing with feet of water. But I am watching the pond across the street get higher and higher and they say that even when the rain stops the rivers and ponds will still be able to flood.

and......we're back at the hotel. Still no power at home, the house is about 50 degrees. I could deal with no TV, internet or lights, but not with it being so cold. Plus no hot water for a shower (electric water heater) We spent the afternoon at home hoping the power would come back on and just couldn't stand it. Thank God for Red Roof Inn, they take pets, although we had to leave the cat at home. She doesnt travel very well and I'm sure she will be ok, a little lonely but ok. I sure hope they get the power back on tomarrow

Finally the sun is coming out here this morning. It started raining saturday afternoon and stopped in the middle of the night last night. We got about 6 inches of rain. The wind blew the entire time between 20-45 mph. Instead of snapping off a lot of trees, they became completely uprooted. I had one in the woods behind the house come up and is laying across the shed. Will have to get the chainsaw out later and remove it. Not sure if it went thru the roof. It was raining to hard out. Well at least can go back to hanging towels and sheets back on the line today. A lot of back roads are closed cause the streams have overrun their banks and are flowing across the roads. Will have to stick to main routes today till the water receeds. No water in the basements of either house so I am happy. No snow left that all got melted yea!!

What a difference

Not a lot of damage here in the Eastern portion of the state but the boy how the Western end got whacked! I went to the Palisades Mall in Rockland Co. NY yesterday on my way back from visiting my Uncle in Hudson, NY. After a few minutes in this gigantic shopping mall, I noticed that many of the businesses like McDonalds and FYI were closed. Finally after about an hour I asked a salesperson at Lindt chocolates(I recommend them) what was going on and she told me that apparently half of the businesses were on one electrical "grid" that was operational, and the other half were on another "grid" that was still out.

The trip back on the beautiful Palisades Parkway was punctuated by lots of downed trees and limbs, and most impressively, large signs that were blown over where they stood.

Storm!

Just by my house in Westchester their is trees that are down and some don't have power. I was Lucky did not loose power but cable went out. And now the cable is somewhat iffy. I work in New Jersey and it is pretty bad their!
