Very nice

Now that's the sort of thing I like. Closest I ever got to seeing something like that was in some of my mothers BH&G mags etc. Certainly not in our neighborhood although one of my friends moms did have a Modern Maid DW/range combo later on. I'll bet is was fun trying to keep it clean all the little crevices it has all over for stuff to splash on and into.

Its very nice Launderess..

Its not a TOL one though no speed heat and heat minder, all burners are marked infinite heat. unless a later/earlier TOL model. also missing all the cool automatic broiler/grill settings.

Cleaning Stainless Steel (INOX)

I'm sure this is known, but thought I'd say my bit...

This can be safely done with almost any chemical. IMHO the strongest/quickest is LYE (Easy-off oven cleaning spray or eqivalent.) Don't bother with the non-caustic stuff. You'll be there forever and the thing will STILL be dirty.

Although caustic and corrossive as it emerges from the can, lye combines with grease to form...ready for this? SOAP which becomes more chemically neutral and further removes MORE grease.

Just be sure to rinse with a lemon OR vinegar and water dilution, which chemically neutralizes the Lye. Wear latex gloves!!! and please protect your eyes.

On a gas stove extinguish pilot lights before spraying!

and please READ THE LABEL ON THE CAN!!!

Base + Acid = Salt + water.
Lye + (Vinegar OR Lemon) = Salt + water

The salt leaves streaks that should be re-rinsed till gone.. They indicate that there was chemical left behind, that was neutralized.

P.S this works great on stainless steel pots and pans, too. But do not use on aluminum (will discolor it in light and dark patches) or on painted surfaces, It will remove the paint.

Fear-not any surface!!!

Love my 64 Flair

Lots of Chrome. The ovens are off by 20 degrees but I rely on the thermometers I hung on the racks to get a true reading. Also, the Heat Minder burner doesn't work correctly (always high).

Kevin, thanks for the tip on the burners. A while back I saw that repairclinic.com had some of the burners and infinite heat controls available for this stove and was wondering if I should stock up on a couple of these.

Any other tips or info on how to recalibrate the ovens will be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know of sources for vintage range parts. I searched the net and found plenty of vintage gas range sources but nothing on electric ranges.

thermostats

"The ovens are off by 20 degrees but I rely on the thermometers I hung on the racks to get a true reading. Also, the Heat Minder burner doesn't work correctly (always high)."

I'm sure there are adjustments for the thermostats for the ovens and the Heat Minder.

I see that what really varied on these ranges is the placemnt of the controls. My Frandmother's Flair range had the surface unit controls on the left, the clock in the center the Temp probe scale to the right of the clock, then the oven controls.

extra parts for Flair range

Fortunately, the surface units were not exclusive to the Flair line of models and were used for many years, so they're not hard to find

I'm confused

When this range is in position and you slide out the elements for use aren't they protruding beyond the cabinets into the floor space area? And how do you ventilate or was a ceiling mounted extractor fan (like my moms) considered normal.

Pete some yes

Look at the pic above IIRC the panel right above the burner retracts to "flush" with the ovens. AS it is shown, when you push the drawer in the "panel below the oven slides forward a few inches, And the burners are staggered, not front and back. I think there was an optional hood that the front panel tilted out at the bottom when in use. Was nice of Rocky to share that pic that is a WELL kept flair.

yep pete

Look at the post from laundress you can see the panel below the ovens that slides forward and covers part of the burner drawer when closed and it slides in when the drawer is pulled out, I have a family member with one of these that still works. Thanks, I had forgotten that until you asked... but yes it does stick out some, into the workspace.

Rocky, I love your pic of your Flair. I'mj sure it has added flair to your meals. Any, such a "period" type of shot, complete with the corning coffee pot.

Thanks guys, glad you enjoyed the pic. Currently, the flair is in the utility room. Eventually it'll make into the kitchen. I was lucky to find this one in overall good condition but it did require some major elbow grease. Well worth it! It has a few dings here and there but thats to be expected.
